  • Electric Idle Control Valve Eh! Selling gasoline

Yes selling gas, at least to some degree or another. That's the conclusion running through my head after experiencing one on my 95 Escort. The crazy thing just seemed to run up the idle real stupid HIGH after start, and not kick itself down very much after warmup. (I had a '79 mustang back in the day that always ran too high, and didn't have the sense to get it adjusted... If I COULD have.)

Anyway a couple of years back I took the part off and cleaned it and it seemed to help a small amount but never satis-factory. Where an idle screw once set above the cam rests a solid threaded stud, with no grove for driver adjustment where a screwdriver used to go and allow for adjustments. It seems I have no chance to get it out without taking the cable and throttle end in which it sits OFF to allow for access. I couldn't get a file to start any groove at the top- A simple metric machine screw (a 5 I think) would end my problems )
So what I managed to do last week- instead of driving the treaded stud toward the cam to raise the idle, was manage to place a nylon lined lock nut on the very end of whats there- extending the stud and raising the idle. It was otherwise set at almost stall when I'd unplug the Idle adj valve- but I got it up to a decent level at least for temperate Florida.
Then I just broke down and ordered another valve anyway- $28 bucks, while a Lincoln Town car and larger Ford pick-ups have their part at about $22 or a third less. The one for my Accent would cost only about $16 or $18. ARRRRRRRRGHHH !!!
So I got the part a day or two back and put it on today- just two bolts and the electrical connection I've unplugged otherwise.
So the friggin thing is BARELY DIFFERENT ! A few RPMS less-noticible- but still waaaay to revvy- a GAS SUCKER for sure. I just feel like I've flushed $28 down the toilet so the powers that be can plague us with a rather heavy part that requires more electric circuit and uses MORE GASOLINE.
It's ON, but it's still unplugged again.
    Dumps Fault! Not so great-a!

Anyway- anybody else with an opinion on this electric idle control valve?

I think it's mostly maybe an Auto tranny thing?
Anyone else unplug it , or try to establish an idle screw where one used to be?
        Just wondering.....
