  • How to disconnect ECT Sensor on 1990 Ford Festiva without breaking the green housing

So, I'm still working on my poor Festy. It was suggested a few months back that the hesitation/poor acceleration/power may be due to a bad ECT sensor. (I replaced plugs, wires, rotor, and dist cap). I want to disconnect the feed to the ECT Sensor but I don't want to break it. How does this come off - I'm guessing two sides need to be squeezed, maybe? I don't want to pry it off.

On an aside, are there any Festy gurus in Oregon who work on the cars? I need a total engine clean, oil leaks everywhere, needs new timing belt, etc. Still trying to decide if I want to keep her after having her for 20+ years.

The wire along the base is slipped into a notch on the male side. You have to carefully slide back or remove the wire with a pick or screwdriver, then shimmy the connector off. Thats how I did it at least, not sure if there is a tool or something to make it easier. Make sure to replace the wire when you are done.
