  • Manual Swap & Engine Upgrade

    Hello
I plan to replace the 1.3L B3 engine in my Kia Pride (Festiva) with a B6-ME SOHC 16V engine. My Festiva currently has an automatic transmission (likely the Mazda F3A), but I’m looking to swap it for the 5-speed manual that comes with the B6.

I'll likely be using a Mazda 323 as the donor car—can I use its master and slave cylinders, clutch pedal, shifter, and shift linkages for the swap? Also, will I need to make any custom modifications to fit the manual transmission into the Festiva?
    Thanks for the reply

I'm just guessing here.. Did any of the Kia Prides in the UK with 5 speeds have hydraulic clutches? If not you will probably have to do some under dash modifications to make the hydraulic clutch and brake assembly from the Mazda fit under the dash and work. I found a 323 in a junk yard here several years ago and after taking a look at all the work that I would need to do to make it fit in the Festiva, I decided against it. There are other on the forum that have much more experience with swapping that I do but many of them have disappeared or switch to Facebook.
I did do a successful conversion of an automatic Festiva to a 5 speed (Rosie) several year ago and it turned out well. Had a junked 5 speed car to strip all the parts I needed for the conversion. That conversion was detailed here on the forum with pictures.. but not sure it is still accessible.

I'd encourage you to try to find a 5speed pride donor for the transmission and pedal box etc. That 16v 1.6 is under 100hp I think so a pride trans should handle it. Save the trouble of adapting the 323 trans. I pulled one of those 1.6 16v sohc engines from a mx3 long ago and remember the intake was extra long and would hit the firewall if I would have used the stock mounting location of the 1.3.
