I got a pair of BMW HID units today. Life is good. Just got to figure out how to make them work.

If you have the ballasts you should be able to hook them up to a battery. Did you get the bi-xenon or standard ones?

How would I tell the difference? They're HID units, containing $300 bulbs. That's about what I know so far. Only 2 wires going from the ballast to the bulb. Is that an indicator?

These are Bi-xenon meaning they have both the High & low beams. Thats the actuator that removes the cutoff line from view to achive high beams

These are standard hid Projectors. They need another source of light for the highs if you want them.

I've been working on this idea for a while but have hit a few bumps in the road. Pm me we might be able to figure something out.
