Yeah back when I lived in Arkansas I lived in the country,I had a GLC with a family of mice that kept me company whenever I drove someplace. Its isnt hard for them to get into anything if theres even the smallest hole that youd think NOTHING could get into. A mouse can.

Yup, they can squeeze into pretty tiny places. I know of a few holes that aren't exactly sealed in the Festiva that would allow them in (towards the engine bay).

I had a teacher who had an old Chevy truck made before catalytic converters. He parked it in the barn one winter, and a mouse crawled up the exhaust pipe, and through an open exhaust valve and made a nest in one of the cylinders.

I alway put my vents on recirulate instead of fresh when I park them for a while. I dont know if it helps but it makes me feel better. I know they also seem to like the air filter box. I cut some screen to cover the air intake hole on my box after finding a nest and a chewed up filter in my box once. I also leave all my hoods up when I park them for the winter.

I Had mice nesting in the back seat foam of my xr4ti a few years back. I felt like they owed me rent for the luxury accomodations. They tore up the carpet underlayment pretty good. Sigh.

I started up my car one time reved 'er up and out popped a large mouse nest. Dumped a pile of cotton and weeds on the driveway and filled the air with hantavirus.

I had kind of the same thing happen.

I was going to buy this used car to drive while I was working on my daily driver. When I took it for a test drive I noticed that it ran hot, lacked power, and kept on stalling.

While I was on my test drive it stalled, again, so I fired it back up and floored it to try to keep it running. After about 5 seconds of this there was a very loud BANG, and I saw the muffler and a bunch of crap flying backwards away from the car.

When I stopped to have a look I found the muffler, and many dozens of dead mice scattered down the road. The muffler was still jammed full of the little buggers, too.

so i guess im not alone then. funny i never had a problem with this until last yr. pretty bad to have to keep a mouse trap onboard as standard equipment. just another reason i hate the place i live.

what small places near the engine bay do you mean, is there anyway i can make them more secure.

You need to put something in there to get rid of the mice. I have seen a car that the mice ate up the wiring and it wouldn't run.

Throw some Bounce dryer sheets under the seats , and up under the dash area , where there may be a hole , mice hate the smell of those sheets , and it will make your car smell better .
