Someone post up the curb weight on an 88-89 and then a 90+... I'd look on my car, but the stickers are missing...
I know that when I weighed my car on the truck scales before the first autoX I went to, it weighed 1800 lbs even. That's fully stripped except for a set of seats and the dash, and a BP under the hood with a full tank of gas.
I want to get a new weight on it with the kit installed and a few extra pieces removed.Simon - pimptiva.com

i agree about the interior of the car. 88 is better quality material. my 88 only has 20k miles on it, no dings so im not sure of the outside metal question. but thinking back it does seem you see more dented up 90's models.
bathtub tom...thanks for the uk link, but the site only gave the pride...2 stars..."We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals." -Mohandas Gandhi

I agree on the subject of the metal in the 80's seeming like it's heavier gauge than the later models. Mine seemed to handle minor bumps without denting, but my brother's 91 seemed like if you looked at it wrong, a dent or wave would appear.
Can't say on the seats, really never drove a Festiva other than mine, for long enough to say for sure which was more comfortable.
As was stated above, if you are thinking of upgrades/engine mods, the FI models would probably be your best bet.
