I got a free 90' Festiva last night!!!

Just wanted to finally introduce myself. I have many different cars from RX7's, Corolla's, wife's Scion, etc. Just your basic Japanese car junky with a lot of enthusiast friends and lucky enough to usually find good deals. Basically my hobby pays for itself most of the time.

Well, I've been reading the boards for sometime know but rarely post since I didn't own a Festiva yet. Well, last night I got lucky and got a white 1990 5-spd for free! It's a little beat up and has some surface rust here and ther but who cares? It was free, runs, and is registered too!

I'll post pics soon. It's a real shitbox but I can see the potential.

Oh yeah, check out my other post of a deal I'm missing out on. Bummer but you can't have it all and I don't have the time right now anyhow.

I just got a 1990 Festiva for free last week too!

I was offered a really beat up, trashed Festiva that looked like it had been in a demolition derby for $25 once.

It was tempting but the car was basically totalled. It still ran but the body was trashed. So was the interior. All chewed up and gutted.

I have yet to find a free one, but if anybody has an extra Festiva they'd like to have taken off their hands, I'd be more than glad to get rid of it for you....

Yah... me too! A free-bee would be nice. Mine cost me $200 clams, and is in awesome shape. The guy wanted $250 and said the clutch was shot. I drove it around a little and it did slip. $200 cash and I left with a car that cost less than my sons X-Box at the time! Tropical blue too!

Got to love the USA! 8)

Mine was in OK shape, having lived a fairly rough life as a commuter car. I paid $200 for it too. Still has the original clutch that doesn't slip at all, even after 17 years of abuse....

I got a FREE Festy L Plus with Funtop

Hi all, I'm a newbie here, because i got a free festiva the other night. Its in great shape for being a '90, i already have a couple cars ('03 Protege, and a '95 dodge minivan) so i was totally stoked to get a free beater/project/commuter car. Body is a bit dinged up but no big dents or damage, and the funtop rocks. Engine only has 130k and runs perfect!

So far I've only had to put up like $100.00 for a new tire and rim, battery, oil change, and engine treatment. and I'll drop another $100.00 for inspection, emissions, and registration. Not bad to get a well running car registered and on the road for $200.

The Clutch feels pretty loose so I'm wondering how long it might go for, its not slipping yet, so I'm wondering if i can tighten the clutch cable or something to keep it alive a bit longer? any ideas?

At this point i plan to spray on bed liner the bumpers and from the door moldings down and spray paint the bad boy green or something. I might just leave it stock.... Don't know yet.

I will take some pics and post them, the funtop is awesome, I've never seen a festiva with one of those.

Anyway there's my intro.

Free Festivas and is it worth it ....

Hey Festiva fan,
Getting a free Festiva can be a hassle if you don't really need it. But in finding parts even at the dealer may be as tough as it has been for me. EG: timing covers: zero avail. via the dealers/ parts stores autozone, advance auto, etc. only in the salvage yards. And the local prices are $25.00 each!, for used!! Our used 3rd Festiva is a parts car. If it becomes reasonable to rebuild it then ok. Until then parts.
If anyone has any info. on repairing a driver's side (front) window regulator or replacing it please post asap. Vise-grips for a window crank is getting old fast; the stud is wearing down too.

how difficult is this? my clutch is shot and i was thinking about a new one? i have the haynes book i'll read up on it - but i don't have much in the way of tools

to adjust your clutch all you need is a few sockets and wrenches...it dont do much tho. my clutch is shot to hell, i adjusted it 3 weeks ago..worked great...now im back to a shitty clutch...just time to replace it i guess

btw, if i can let out the clutch fairly slowly and it doesn't stall (it just sort of idles around like an automatic), that's the clutch right, and not some other problem?

good way to test your clutch....get into 2nd gear around 10 mph. thats low for 2nd gear. mash the gas all the way to the red line into 3rd....if you feel no hesitation whatsoever your clutch is golden. if you feel the car slow down or not accelerate as quickly as it should and the motor revs up while this happens, then its your clutch spinning.
