  • friggle frak degnabit cussin varmint.............

Grrrr, I have a 95 escort that looks good, but is a great big pile of dung, or at least the waterpump I put in last summer is......
First, went to Raleigh a few weeks ago, and as I pull out of harbour freight, here some noise, swing into advance auto.
The timing belt tensioner is part of the water pump, and it had seized, had to buy a new pump to remove the pulley, and then replace the belt, in the rain, I might add.
Just a few hours ago, the pump itself just seized up! Broke the timing belt, thank the gods it isn't an interference engine. And at least I still have that new water pump, but I have 2 truck engines to swap tonight, and instead, I get to do a water pump.
Want to hear some interesting cursing? Go back a few hours today and find me on the side of the road....Or come on by and have a beer, this is gonna be nasty

There, I feel better now, rant off.

That's beat.....I have a '96 Escort with a 1.9L...I'm impressed...changing a timing belt in the parking lot. The front enginge mount has to come out and tucking that lower cover back in place can be a real..........

Man I feel for you, back when I owned my 95 Escort, I had the SAME thing happen to me. What a bad design...

Hehe, whoever had it before me left the covers off, no need to remove the engine mount. I have had two donor cars for it, and looked at all the other escorts with 1.9's I could find, and it seems NOONE puts the covers back on, except you I WOULD if I had em, but yeh. It is done now, and a new water pump. Took a short test drive, now getting ready to get the wife from work, escort, don't fail me now! I can't afford another tow......

The missing covers could be contributing to the pulley seizing. Without the cover road grime and crap gets in there and messes things up. The timing cover is there for a reason. If the manufacturer could get buy without one they would have saved 6 ounces and 50 cents and not put one on at the factory.

Well, I know what you mean, but, the donor car, a 93, had over 400,000. My old landlord sold it to me with 380,000 for $50. Beat to crud, but it ran well. It had the cover off since 80,000, and TB, WP were changed every 80k. Never a problem. I have had the TBC off my festy for years as well. No problems. I believe it is to keep things from inadvertently from getting trapped in what is such a vital part of the engine. Personally, I hate the dang things. You know, I always leave em off my cars....

Nah, I work for Advance Auto I would never buy our water pumps unless it was the new one and also NEVER BUY OUR BATTERIES they suck and will leave you stranded!! The pump was probably bad to begin with also try to get a someone with and ASE badge when you go in otherwise its just someone that has a job they could care less.

Ayep, and the pump was from advance, and now so is the one I just put in. I THINK the last one was a reman, it came with the car, guy gave up putting it all back together, and just gave it to me! I guess I shouldn't cry too much, a free car is worth every penny you pay for it!
