Would enjoy everyone's two-cents regarding KBB.

I get daily emails from people while listing Festivas and Metros stating something like: "KBB says this car is only worth..."

I have my strong opinions about this garbage publication, but would very much enjoy reading what others think about it first.

Has the publishers of this book even been to the gas station in the past ten years?

Are they a shadow subsid. of the American auto industry to undervalue used cars in order to sell new ones?

That and NADA may be garbage publications , but they will always be what someone feels the need to point to. But they really arent a reliable guideline. Its always going to boil down to what a person is willing to pay for a vehicle at that particular moment.

i personally think nada is ALOT more accurate. the dealer i bought my car from only uses nada, as do alot of other dealers.

kbb is always on the real low side, my 2007 taurus at kbb with 40k on it, excelent condition, trade in value was only 7450. nada was about 9500.

I think kbb is sellers enemy buyers friend. Just like everything else value is based on supply and demand.

A car is worth what the market will bear. Period. KBB and NADA are fair guidelines for some cars more than others, but their numbers on Festivas are wayyyy off.

KBB is just that a guideline . . . you can only determine the value of anything but what people are willing to pay. I hate to see listings that read "I saw one of these go for 1500 last week on here" That was last week and that buyer is no longer buying . . . But regardless of what people think its worth if its worth more to you than it is to them than you wont sell to them plain and simple.

Yeah, NADA ia high, and KBB seems to be low. They can't take special interest cars like a Festy and get them right, it's not practical... who would have ever thought a crackerbox hatchback from the early nineties would ever go for over $300? LOL.. they didn't USED to...

I use KBB when I am buying, and NADA when selling.. IMO, they are BOTH a bit high for real value... but hey... I am a cheapskate.....

I WISH I could get book value outta my F-150... that would be AWESOME...

That being said, you still have the condition grading.... most people selling a car, seem to think their car is in EXCELLENT condition, when most I see are less than good, and slightly more than poor, or low retail.

No book could ever hope to get the values spot on, especially for different markets. I buy somewhere around trade-in, or a bit lower, and try to sell somewhere around low retail, or a bit lower..

Average Retail?? that's a joke, a price only rip-off car lots ever get out of anything...

Low $937 average $1,537* High retail $1,912


THAT was surprising, and spot on if you ask me

It was backwards for a subaru I was trying to sell. KBB was higher than NADA. Still ended up selling it for less than both, but I think both were high, but i still made money on the car.

Check autotrader, ebay, search google {craigslist Festiva 1990} and see what the market is bringing... thats what the car is worth. with high gas prices, add another few hundred
