I hope that car doesnt get torn up. That would be a shame. But then think what the parts would bring on ebay, Probably still make a tidy profit. Seems like the car could be sold to someone in Japan or somewhere else.

Say what...the federal gov't does not control car registration...it's a state jurisdiction. The DOT mandates minimum safety standardrs for all cars and a host of other standards exist for new car sales....please someone tell me what I'm missing.

Aahhh, the 'Burgh. I miss it.
Anyway, what 3-spoke steering wheel does it have?
If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.

I think it has more to do with federal emmision regulations then registration. I have heard that cars from overseas don't have all the required smog stuff that is required in the US.

Give the car to me, we don't have emissions testing here! I'll give it a good home. =)

sorry to leave this thread in the dark so long. i posted yesterday and had intended to follow up last night but got an unexpected invite and free tickets to the pgh penquins playoff game and only now have gotten back. i didn't expect the response that this has gotten. looking back at the initial post i can see that i was a little vague with regards to the status of the car. for one, it is not for sale. it is the car that was brought to our attention a few months ago. after many conversations with the owner, a fairer price was agreed upon that will be even more managable when i sell the low milage GL. sadly, this car will never see another mile as it will be carefully diassembled and the shell to be shipped back to the owner. i am satisfied with that though as it will save many years of frustration and shipping costs to hunt down the pieces to recreate a canvas top festiva with all the power goodys. fortunately i have had a 40K mile 93 L sitting for years waiting for this transplant. i will not take offense if anybody thinks i am crazy for making this purchase. most of you have been there on a smaller or maybe larger scale. i will try to take as many photos of the dissasembly as possible to help those who may be trying to install similar options in their festys. i am sorry but there are very few parts that i will be selling. maybe the hubcaps and front and rear spoilers. the dash and steering rack are already spoken for.

actually usually called a cool bin. hinged insulated lid reveals about a 6" deep bin with removable tray for three beverage cans. the recess for the lid is actually molded in as part of the dash and the bin is attached from below. a series of slots towards the front of the bin are probably integrated with the A/C ducting to direct chilled air into the bin. i will post pics of the set up when i remove the dash. anybody read japanese?

That sure would be handy for driving and driving. Can you use it in the winter to keep your drinks cool but still have the heater or defrost on ? Or could you warm something up by diverting defrost air. Say to heat up a can of soup for instance. Hey, a dash top hot plate might be handy too. Then you could have soup and a grill cheese.

What's all this talk about can't be licensed for many years, and swap out the vin and title with a JY? Are festiva's too old to be on the road or something? Is this only in certian states? I am about to buy one so your sorta making me nervous.
