When I got my Festiva from the scrapyard they were more than happy to do the even swap. I thinks there were 2 reasons, the Escort weighed so much more and Id helped them out by weighing trucks at my job for them on the sly.

You wouldn't BELIEVE the cars they crushed today.. Most ran..

Scrap car bodies went to $310 a ton here this week... wow.. that makes some big cars worth close to $600 crushed.. they pay NOTHING for most.. crush 20 or 30 at a time.. to them, it's just $15-20K, easy... they don't care...

I did save my Suzuki Swift GT... it was sitting there, ready for me to haul home.. SO, I got it, and my messed up 5 speed..

Anyone know if the reverse out of my 4 speed will fit in this 5 speed? I know NOTHING about the internals of these trannys...

I remember hearing that the internals were identical aside from the prescence/lack of the 5th drive/driven gears. If you have an arbor press handy, a little transmission surgery may be doable.

Is there even $75 worth of scrap metal in a festiva ? Besides, you could sell some parts and still have the scrap value.
I take "junk" cars to the salvage yard near me, with a certainty they will be crushed right away. I get $9.15 per 100lbs. Plus, I can usually get $75 or more for the cat. When you figure in the amount of time to crush compared to the amount of time to sell the scrap, it probably works out better.....

Same thing happened to me today but it was a good thing. I called the j/y Thursday about my running b6 and told them I would be there Friday to pull it from the 323 it was in. She said $150 if I pull it. Didnt make it Friday but went today (Sat) and there it was on the ground waiting for me. She already cruched the car. So after a little haggle I got it for $100. and Ill give her a blown up motor for scrap. I saved $50 + labor/time and got rid of a pile o junk in my yard. Coooooool!

Can you enlighten me on this? I have a couple cats pulled from different things in the garage. I didn't know what to do with them, but didn't want to put in the trash.

Call around to local scrap yards for a start. If you list them on ebay "for precious metals recovery only", I understand you can get even more, although I am sure some people buy them to replace a bad one on their car. A cat can have up to, I think, 4 grams of precious metals in them. The scrap yard I goto pays as little as $50, up to $125. I find it quick and easy just to sell to them there....
