  • Ran out of gas

I am not sure i should admit to this, but I ran out of gas today in the Festy. I work 45 mins from home and payday is not till Fri so natrually I'm flat broke. I had a 8th of a tank this morning and I though it would last till I got home tonight. It did not, I ran dry mid way across the Missouri river bridge on 435N. Only 80 feet fron the other side of the hill. I was stranded for over an hour till my friend from KC could make it out there to give me a couple of gallons. I even saw a festiva driving down the road, hope they are vetrans and not ill influanced by my apparent breakdown, Hate to give the little cars a bad image.

Are you telling us the passing Festy didn't stop?!

I've ran out quite a few times in a festy. When they say "E" they mean it! Where as a metro will run another 100 miles!...

Plus my guage doesn't work properly. Is there a cleaning fix for this? I use to fix them in various Toyota vans with simular problems. Just dirty brass sliders from being in gas all their lives.

Good to know I am not alone is this. And the other Festiva was going the other way across the Highway. Little white car with cool graphic strips.

interesting that you should say that when it says "E", it means it; my gauge can go actually a little past E and still be running.

Thats what I like about the tripometers on the tach clusters. I reset mine when I fill up so I have two ways to check when I getting close to empty since I know how many miles I can go on a full tank.

at least you didn't blow a 3 year old timing belt (today) and while AAA is picking me up, the truck goes up in flames... electrical fire. had the belt swapped out in about 30min, but i think i touched a valve because there's a lack of power and vaccume. oh well, i was planing to rebuild again anyway...

^^ Festivas are non interferance engines, check to make sure belt is aligned correctly.

i realize the b series engines are non interferance, BUT i had .020 shaved off my b6 head when i had it rebuilt. i used to pull 23" vac at idle, now it's 18" thats a big jump.

I didn't tell anyone that I ran out of gas back in March, except for my brother who I called to bring me some. He laughed and said how do you out of gas in a festiva? Trip odometer read 333, so I thought I had at enough gas to go another 3 miles. Ran out of gas about 300 yards from the gas station. Would have push it to the gas station but, ran out at the bottom of a small steep hill, and it was pouring down rain.

^ You miscalculated, you should have subtracted three miles due to the resistance of the rain as you drove through it .

E definitely means Empty with Jack. I've never run out of gas in him, but when it was my mother's car (she originally had it brand new, and the clutch eventually ate her knee and forced her to get an automatic) she did once.

I've never doubted that one bit of advice... probably a good thing.
