  • How many have broken transmissions?

In my ongoing saga, I'm trying to decide whether to keep or ditch my stock 5-speed for an included G25MR without axles or mounts or anything. It's a toss-up right now, but I want to find out the exact threshold of the stock transmission. At what point of traction and power does the transmission self-destruct?

i've broken a stock tranny with a B3, it all depends how you drive them

    1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

I blew a tranny in half, compliments of my built BP:

That was thanks to a major burnout at a redlight... It was my attempt at showing off gone wrong. The girlfriend and I had to jump out and push the car out of traffic, across 2 lanes of traffic and into a parking lot to get towed.

Fun... The girlfriend was pissed for days.

But... Replacing it was a good learning experience. I've got a G25 in my basement waiting for the next time.

I have only popped the one, but considering i am still under 40,000 kilometres, that's prob a bad thing.

I have a B6T and although the car doesn't run, I tend to have mechanical sympathy when I drive.

I killed 2 festiva 4 speeds with stock B3's when I was young and stupid. Like damkid said, it depends on how you drive. Matt Swab has at least one bp mated to a stock festiva tranny. He's had for years I think. I would go with the G25mr, I am actually. (says this as he drags feet :blushes: )

Yeah... I was going to keep a few of the mangled gears... But I ended up tossing the whole thing to the trash instead.

I've been delivering pizza for the last 35000 miles on my stock b3 tranny behind a stock bp... and thats on a trans that had nearly 200000 miles on it when I did the swap. The factory replacement clutch is starting to slip some during hard acceleration at highway speeds but just driving around town and quick acceleration around town it holds fine. I need to put in a little stiffer clutch, but as far as the trans as long as you aren't thrashing it all the time it should hold up fine with up to a stock bp, but i wouldn't run a stock trans with a built bp or a b6t.
                            No festiva for me ATM...
