  • We should all give up our Festivas....

... so says a Ford dealership parts guy.

I called earlier today to see if, by some chance, this particular dealership (Calgary's oldest) had any of the windshield trim clips I'm looking for. The parts guy I spoke to told me that the parts were obsolete as is the whole car. I commented that that there are a lot of us trying to keep them on the road and his reply was "give it up". I then commented on the mileage and politely said goodbye.

I 2nd this. Whats Stopping this guy from saying any other car is obsolete? So what, are people with 80s Mustangs obsolete too? Just because its a small econobox doesn't make it obsolete.

My Ford parts guy gives me the same treatment all the time. He got a little miffed two weeks ago when my last parking brake cable came in, and I told him it was for one of those "obsolete" Festivas. As long as I get my discount........ and he doesn't start in on my 93 Taurus.......

GIVE UP! Is that parts guy crazy? Everyone on this site that owns a festiva or aspire are the proud owners of a car that I'm sure is in the top 5 as being the most fuel efficient on the road today. Not to mention one of the cheapest to maintain.

As far as getting parts, as long as we have our local auto parts stores, junk yards, ebay, and don't forget festivamotorsport, and most importantly this site, we should be able to find parts and keep are cars running.

Granted, parts seem to be limited and harder to come by. It's only going to get worse as our cars get older. I suggest that the next time you visit your local junk yard, and auto parts store, you should stock up on as many parts as you can, even if you don't need them. If someone needs something that you have you can sell it here. Thats what is great about this site, the people here are always willing to help each other. By sticking together and helping out each other we can keep are cars running for a long time.

After all, we are doing are part to conserve fuel by driving these cars. The government should award us for this.( That last sentence was a joke but, I couldn't resist)

Parts man at closest Ford dealer here is just the opposite. Said if I ever get stumped he'd be glad to see what he could do.

What happened is that Kia (that made the car for Ford from a Mazda design) decided that it wanted to sell cars under its own name. This hacked off Ford, so Ford stopped supporting these vehicles as soon as the federally required parts support period expired. New car dealers in general do a lousy job with parts support for anything over ten years old. Their factory reps come into the parts room and pull anything that's too old off the shelf and either sell it to a specialty house or pitch it in the dumpster.

Has anybody tried to see if there are parts in a Kia dealer??? Of course, asking for if it is a Pride.
