  • 2 Fast 2 Festiva

Ya'll remember the guy who was running a Festiva in the 24 Hours of Lemons? According to Jalopnik, he was at it again at the most recent race, and so was a second team in a Yellow Festiva. Pictures of both cars about halfway down the Jalopnik page. http://jalopnik.com/391501/the-24-ho...8-uber-gallery

You know that is something that kills me too. Even if I hated a car I could not just go out and trash it. So many unfortunate people caint even afford a car and these carless people destroy them for the fun of it. Those are probably the same people who never had toys as a child because they broke them all the time. ~sorry that is one of my buttons and its quite easy to push! glad im not alone

Is there a clear winner of this race, or is the whole point of it to destroy whatever car you're driving?

I find the race quite refreshing. In a world where racing is usually not available to the common man, the 24 Hours of Lemons makes it happen. The cars aren't destroyed, just driven hard. Most are re used year to year, and while they cease to be viable road cars, they are repurposed as race cars. This is not a demolition derby. This is an example of grass roots motorsports in action.
If I remember the blue Festiva guy's post here, his car was already gutted for hornet racing, and had a B6 swap. I remember seeing a similar gutted B6 Festiva on eBay a few months back. It was yellow, so I bet it is the second one.
There's also an element of an engineering challenge in the race. It's amazing what some people can do with 500 bucks. Jalopnik's race car was a Volvo 240 with a Ford 302 and Borg Warner T5 tranny!
