I wish they would reconsider bringing the diesel motor over here. If they did, i would really consider buying one. It would still be cheaper to go diesel even though diesel is more expensive.
Don't think the American consumer is that smart. If Detroit convinced the filling staions to advertise diesel at $2.50 per 1/2 gallon...they couldn't get diesels to market quick enough.
I'll be in line to test drive.

The Greatest Purchase I Ever Made
[QUOTE=FB71;147833]The Fiesta was very good car! It shared alot of engine parts with the Cortina, and could really be hot rodded.
I had a really nice 79 Fiesta "S" 10+ years ago. It was a better car in some ways than a Festiva. It was German designed, very similar to the VW Rabbits, and built with better materials and quality, IMO. It had a tach, factory sunroof and was silver with an orange reflective side stripe. It looked like a telephone company fleet vehicle. I installed a Pacesetter header and jetted up the secondary on the progressive Weber carb. It weighed 1910lbs and I could outrun a 280ZX and an 87 Escort GT (1.9L H.O. EFI). I would say it would be a match for a B6 SOHC Festy. It only had a 4 speed and the best MPG I got was about 34 after the mods. I was sick when it died after 200K, but then I found the Festy. What's next when the Festivas are gone, Aspires?, Focus's?
Thats right. Ford is trying to get away from having different platforms for all the different countries they sell cars in, so the new Fiesta will be basically what the europeans are getting.
Europe get a FAR better Focus than the "new", restyled pos they sell here. Hopefully we'll get that soon too?
As i said, I'm just happy we're getting the 3-door hatch!

we're slated to get the gen3 Focus in 2012 as part of the global launch. They actually had some very good financial reasons to not give us the gen2, but I still wish they had. The '09 Mazda6 and '10 Fusion/Milan will actually not share the same exact sub structure as the Euro/Aisa versions. The US will get a slightly stretched and widened version, but it will still share many sheet metal components, suspension and drivetrain parts. The US will also get slightly larger engines that the Euro/Aisa versions

yes that's what i meant,,, not Exactly the same, but I guess the platforms are designed to be slightly changed for different cars but still use the same type/location of suspension mounting points and various measurements... at least thats how i understand it. It's a concept that's hard to explain sometimes...."yes, it's the same,,but different!" Allows manufacturers to make different models much more cheaply than a whole 'nother frame for each model...
I like the euro focus 3-door; pretty sweeet.

The 1.4-liter diesel block reportedly gets over 54 mpg, whereas the two small gas engines available in the Mazda2 get 44 mpg (for the 1.3 liter) and 40 mpg (for the 1.5 liter).
There's no word yet on whether the diesel will make it to the U.S.
