When even Saudi Arabian officials are saying that oil prices are out of line. You know something is messed up!Search Master - Honorary Member of Midwest Festiva Inc., Gulf Coast Chapter

Think about that. High fuel prices have prompted on of the worlds largest oil consumers (US) to seriously look toward alternate fuel sources, renewable fuels, domestically produced oil, and other ways to reduce our dependency upon Middle Eastern oil. Basically, they're getting worried that their largest customer will walk away... If you had one customer that constituted more than 50% of your income, and the customer begins grumbling about shopping somewhere else, wouldn't you take steps to ensure that customer is happy?Jim DeAngelis

Good point. Are we still their biggest customer? I thought China was right there with us.
Theyre 2nd and quite a ways behind us. And actually the US Military is the worlds largest consumer of oil.Last edited by MONSOON; 06-11-2008, 10:32 PM.Search Master - Honorary Member of Midwest Festiva Inc., Gulf Coast Chapter

China also buys alot of oil from Russia. China is currently the largest user of oil in the world, but we are still Saudi's biggest customer.Jim DeAngelis

It needs to go to $10/gal, then some real positive changes will happen. You will be able to buy a new festiva.sigpic

IMO, the high prices are "good." Now maybe we'll come out of the wasteful super-luxury SUV mindset and realize that cheap oil won't last forever.
I have nothing against big vehicles, mind you. Some people need them. It's just that Americans seemed to have gone on an orgy of gas guzzling with no thought as to the consequences. Now, China, India and some other developing nations are going to be increasing their use of oil. Prices probably won't be going much lower again. Demand will stay high.
We need to maximize oil and natural gas conservation while developing new energy sources.
Our government also needs to relax some safety regs so we can go back to cheaper, simpler little cars like our own. The average little new car should weigh around 2000 pounds, be somewhat safer than they were in 1990, and they should be getting 40 mpg and up. All "low tech."
Make a 2200 pound hybrid and see what you can wring out of it!
LESS MASS, LESS ENERGY NEEDED TO MOVE IT. PRETTY DAMN SIMPLE.
It really angers me that I can't import a 2000 Kia Pride or newer Mazda 121.

My dad bought this "how-to" where a guy (apperently) made a Ford Explorer get almost 200mpg using hydrogen, he's been working on it to try it out and he's almost there, just need to mount it to our explorer
the concept seems simple enough though, he took a plastic jar (peanut butter jar) and made basically a spaced out coil on the inside (i'll get a pic of my dads) the guy filled it with water and a little bit of baking soda, and put an electric charge to the coil which is supposed to create hydrogen gas, i guess my dad has already tested it and yes it does create hydrogen
so once the container is in the vehicle the electricity is supposed to turn on/off with the key, and you gotta hook up a 1/4" vaccuum hose from the container to your intake so your engine can use the hydrogen gas, my dad said the guy who did this had like 6 containers on his explorer
so soon we'll see if this actually works *fingers crossed*

^ Aint that the truth. I think the news media is driving up the price of gas. Every time you turn around you hear that gas prices are expected to rise because of this or that reason. The oil companies are listening and thinking , everyone is expecting the price of gas to rise. So they raise it. The media just give them an excuse.
News flash, gas expected to reach $4.50/gal by the fouth of July.
News flash, hurricane Katrina wipes out Gulf drilling rigs, gas prices expected to rise.
News flash, OPEC decides to keep production steay, gas prices expected to rise.
News flash, unusual cold winter, gas price expected to rise.
News flash, Greedy oil companies will raise the price of oil everytime you give them an excuse.sigpic

OH NO!!!! ANOTHER VICTIM OF THE HHO SCAM!!!! Yes, it does make hydrogen, but not enough to yield the fuel economy claimed.Jim DeAngelis

ok, good. I've seen these kits online and on Ebay for outrageous prices (Well over $400 in some cases). I'm all for homegrown tech, though. And yes, you can acheive increased fuel econ with a large multiple of hydrogen crackers, but the current load on the alternator will be significant.Jim DeAngelis
