  • question on price

    I saw a light blue 92 if I recall -
heres the list of whats wrong:
    -Dents
    -Cracked windsheild(needs replaced)
    -Bad Muffler
    -Exaust Header Leaks
-Shotty work on fuel pump rewiring
    -Faded Paint
    -Missing Shift boot
    -sunfaded tan interior
-rips in seats not bad but rips none the less

    He mentioned
he just replaced the left have shaft and put new used rubbers on it
The guy wants 1000 for it but I dont think its worth it. I want to make it a good home but dont want to get shafted - what would you guys pay?

Before the price of gas went up I'd say $300. Now I'd say $600 tops.

Windshield $300-ish, Muffler $100-ish... so knock $400 off the top of the $1000 right there.

Focustiva: Because I was told it was was impossible to fit a Focus bumper on a Festiva.

I'd say no more than 500 to 600 myself also. Yes the gas prices are up an econo-boxes are wanted. But a festiva is also a 15-20 year old car....

I was thinking about 400 since the motor needs a new valve cover seal and probly new manifold parts. I didnt open the oil cap to look at the head to see if its chared but the motor doesnt smoke and it sounded good no lifter noise or bottom end noise. I forgot to write down the miles so I forgot the actuall number but its like 16XXXX. I know the windsheild is 179 installed and I usually tip the guy because he does great work - a new muffler is 98 uninstalled (asumming thats the only part needing replaced). The rust is really good for an Iowa car - even through the baint is faded theres only a couple spots of rust.
Cell Phone Pic so quality isnt great.

                    1992 = $1000
                    -Dents -$100
                    -Cracked windsheild(needs replaced) -$150
                    -Bad Muffler -$100
                    -Exaust Header Leaks -$100
-Shotty work on fuel pump rewiring -$100
                    -Faded Paint - $0
                    -Missing Shift boot - $0
                    -sunfaded tan interior - $0
-rips in seats not bad but rips none the less - $0
-left have shaft and put new used rubbers +$100

The guy wants 1000 for it but I dont think its worth it. $1000-$450 = $550 MAX.

Realistically, at least if I were talking to the guy, I'd be telling myself it is nothing more than a parts car. That'll keep you from over spending. I'd probably not pay more than $300. Don't get caught up in "one man's junk is another man's nightmare!" If you can't get the guy down, get a Festiva Hunting License, a rubber band shooting pistola and get to huntin'!!

p.s. Stay on your side of the Mississippi darnit!!!!! jk

Wow! Topic took a left turn.

Keep us updated on the car purchase! Just start way low and explain what kinda money you will be required to spend to make it roadworthy, as you barter with him. The numbers I wrote are just examples to think of while you "chat" with your new found friend. Heck, add 50 or 100 bucks to each problem, whatever, to get his price down, because you know it's going to take a few bucks to work the kinks out.
