  • Hi all

New here. Just about to take ownership of a 93 Festiva L. 167,000 miles on the clock and it runs like a champ as far as I can tell. 5 speed of course.

Bodys a little beat up but I didnt buy it for the looks. I cant find rust anywhere.

Brakes and tires are shot. Front rotors are like chewed up foil. Im not sure what shape the rears are in, but they dont seem to be doing much work. Im trying to figure out how to adjust them, and theres a lot of slack in the rear e-brake cables. Good thing parts are dirt cheap. Ive read about the Aspire brake swap but I dont really feel like junkyarding for the necessary hardware.

Paying $450 for it too. I guess thats pretty much a steal these days.

Cant wait to fix it up and make it my driver!

      Near Toledo Ohio.

Just filled the gas tank for $28 bucks from about 1/8th tank. Sweet. Full tank in my Tbird would be at least $80 now haha.

Can anyone point me towards some common beginner performance mods for these cars? Something like intake/exhaust/timing etc? Has anyone advanced the ignition timing and run higher octane gas?

Welcome bhazard! Great Deal! Congrats on your new aquisition...it should treat you well as a daily driver! Emergency brake should adjust where the cable meets the handle. You may have to take the cover off first, then adjust the nut. Make sure your cables aren't frozen/rusted. Good Luck!

dont really think you can get more hp without a swap.

It just adjusts with that allen bolt on the handle? I was trying to adjust that tension equalizer thing in the back...

Ehh adjusting the brake handle didnt really do much, put more tension on the handle, but the rear cables still have a bunch of slack. Are there adjusters on the drums that are accessible without taking the drum apart?

Welcome Aboard, bhazard!!!!! 450 is a steal for a festy. Around here, they go on sale for twice that and are gone in less than a day. Pretty much no matter what condition they are in.

Nice score and again, welcome to ff.com!!!

I always thought they were self adjusting - for years I've just backed the car up a fair bit, took it out of gear and hit the brakes. Seems to do the trick.

Looks great for a Rustbelt car. There's no reason you shouldn't get another 167K out of her. And yeah, less than $500 is pretty much a steal these days.

I'm just gonna assume the rear shoes are too far gone as well.

I priced two new front rotors and pads, and rear shoes at rockauto and the shipping was about 1.5 times as much as the cost of the parts :/

I'll just go napa I guess.
