forget the sunroof as there's no need for boundry seperation there, but there is need for seperation at the hatch (hence the rear windows). as for the 1/2 qt low... less windage at the crank; it won't have to cut through as much oil, thus reducing parasitic loss.

The sunroof is popped mostly for the air flow and ease of closing should it start to rain - again, we have to trade comfort for mpg at some point.

Little concerned with dropping the amount of oil in there - given how much mine leaks on any given day. I've heard some people getting good mpg results with the use of synthetics - do you think that this may be because it is "slipperier" and doesn't have to work as hard cutting though the oil in the pan?

56.76 mpg is my best tank to date..... averaged 49.8 mpg for over 35,000 miles. Last tank was 54.3 mpg. Just keep practicing the hypermiling! My worst tank ever was 42!
