  • testing trailer pigtails?

how can you test a trailer pigtail on a truck with out a trailer? i may be borrowing one and i need to know if my pigtail is good.

i have a multi meter if that will work. this is the connector on my truck but just reversed female/male connectors, so i have 3 female and 1 male.

Use the multimeter... One of them will be ground, my guess is that your male connector will be ground... Then probably the female sides would be turn signals and the middle would be tails and/or brakes.

Break out your meter... In your truck, turn on your left turn signal... See what connector is "hot" by use of the meter... Then do the same for the right turn signal... Then see what one is on for the brakes (or just regular tails probably)...

Flat molded connectors allow basic hookup for three lighting functions; right turn signal / stop light (green), left turn signal / stop light (yellow), taillight / license / side marker (brown) and a ground (white).
