I've been driving a 91 civic si with b18 swap. Now with a baby on the way I needed something with 4 doors, air and that gets good mpg. So I picked up a 97 escort lx 5 speed with ac. It came from Virginia and hasn't seen an Ohio winter yet. It was real dirty.

Not bad for $700.

Nice...I have a '96 LX in the stable....it's been a real champ for my daughter and now me.
I have all of the factory manuals if you need any thing...but i think 97 was the start of the new body/chassis. Best of luck.

Youll never hear me say a bad thing about Escorts. Ive had 8 or 9 of them and loved all but 1 of them and it wasnt its fault, it was the previous owners.

its funny, i too just bought a red 97 sport w/ ac, a tach and alloys for $700. its clean as heck and runs great, but i`m only getting 31mpg, was hoping for around 36 (then again, it sure beats paying 13k for a new yaris that gets 35)

nice car! get some of those blacked out headlights off ebay for it.

Tuneup, air up tires, and slow down. Your mpg will go up.

what a steel! I was looking for a car for my wife and there is no way you could get an escort around me for that price. Ive seen late 80's early 90's go for more than twice that.

I bought one of those new in 1998 for $17,000, it was a wagon. Its not the most comfortable car out there, but it is ultra reliable. Nice purchase and congrats on the baby!

We had a 99' wagon. It was a good car. Pretty noisy on the road. And the transmission(auto) went out at 125,000. From what I heard, I guess that's not all that uncommon. I bought a used one and replaced it myself. Now I know why they get $800 for labor. It was a lot of work! Since you have a manual, you don't have to worry about that. Congrats on the baby!
