  • Philosophical quandry... when is a Festiva no longer a Festiva?

Here is a head scratcher with no real answer... how modded does a Festiva have to be before it stops being a Festiva?

This harkens back to the old saw of "if you replace a board on a ship, the ship is still the same. If you slowly, one by one over time, replace ALL of the boards on a ship, is it still the same ship?"

There is no right answer... so vote!

I know a guy who spent a fortune having a rare car re-built. New space-frame chassis, new fibreglass body from a mould of the old one. About the only things that were original, were the dynamo (which failed and to be replaced) and the engine block.

He reckoned that as long as the original chassis plate was there, then it was still the original car!

    It's like 'Trigger's broom':
It's had a few new heads, and a couple of new handles, but it's still the same old broom!

I say as long as you have a Festiva body shell, it's still a Festiva. If it looks like a duck, its a duck.

That's not to say that a BP or Aspire suspension diminishes some of the original Festivosity, but modified Festivas, even SHOguns and SHOgun clones show that the owner has a passion for the Festiva, otherwise they would not go to such great lengths to modify/obtain their cars. Modified Festivas are no less Festivas than stock ones. If anything their Festivatude is enhanced.

If you do the Aspire swap, does it then become a "Fespire"?

Or, does it become an Astiva??? Hope that doesn't get purged. lol.

I'm in the camp that as long as it looks like a Festiva, then it is one, no matter what changes have taken place.

As long as your insurance company thinks it's a Festiva, it is a ...... Festiva.

the same question could be put towards a human...yet about every two months almost each cell has been replaced with a new one, does that mean that we are different from the people we were 6 months ago?...YES...that's the point. everything changes and adapts. so go ahead an swap engines with a viper, replace the panels with carbon fiber, put 40"rims on it and go off-road!...it's the "natural" progression of things...lol, but kudos to those that go the OEM path!
