  • noticed something today

well i was taking some under hood emasurements today at lunch for the header i am trying to fab....and thought i would check fluids...oil was ok...brake fluid was good...bug juice toped off....but whats this the top of the radiator is full of motor oil....was i drunk the last time i toped it off...nope, i have a bad head gasket, or something like that...

instead of actually diagnosing it i have taken it as a sighn from above that it is finally time to put the 110k mile b6 sohc from the other festiva into the one i drive every day....

and i thought i would be bored this weekend, ha.
wait till the guys at work see this.

too much throttle and not enoughf clutch....the transmission is full of metal bits.. wont stay in third aneymore, and lots of baring noise....so thats why i parked it, figuring i would eventually find a 323 trans for cheep....so now i am sill looking at my local salvage yards for an "F" transmission (i think thats right, cant rember right now...)

but it will all go into the fest with the better body

the clutch in it has about 5k on it. and that part is fine. the transmission failed as a direct result of me not checking fluid levle often enoughf.

see i have had it apart three times to weld the internal shift detent thingy back to gether, wen it breaks you know it, the shifter dosent feel like it is atached to aneything... and if you fish around you can still get into all gears except reverse...
well actually the first time it broke i only took it apart wen i put it into reverse and couldent get it to pop back out...

aneywhoo.....the last time i put it together i used auto tranny fluid, you know what the mfg recommends. well untill then i had been running a mixture of aney thing better than 75wt like 75w-140, and 80w-90.....free stuff ods and ends and such....

every seal in the tranny leaks, and i let it get too low and then went on a nice 90+mph
hiway drive for a couple hours.....went to stop at a light and heard a bang wen i clutched in.

so i drained about a half cup of chunkey atf out the next day at work. filed it with 90wt and it got a little quieter, and would stay in third, but i still dont trust it for daily duties.... and the body is pretty banged up....it has led a hard life. the guy i bought it from in 05 had used it for cable and internet installations....

and so i started driving the green one....and wen the front brakes went, i rebuilt the aspire knuckles and calipers and slaped it on with some new pads and rotors.. and now that it needs engine work i will swap the 1.6 over...

          maby a fms cam first......
