  • Brought the car home last night

Went up and got the car last night and brought it home. I noticed a few little things that aren't quite right with it, mainly small things. One, full throttle acceleration upshifts happen at 4500? Isn't that a bit low? It also doesn't downshift too well either, also it seems to occasionally take a second to go into drive for some reason. Two, it seems to wander on the road and is a bit twitchy. What causes that? Three, some odd clunking noise in the front end. I also have a clunking noise in the back. Four, it seems really weak, I mean even my mom, who had to drive the car for a short distance, said it's slow. Maybe my timing is off? It hesitates very briefly in neutral when I push the gas to the floor. I expected to find a few things that needed attention on the car given the price I paid for it. What's it going to take to fix up those problems? The car is in really good shape, the underside is undercoated and there's no sign of any rust problems. Exhaust front to back, save for one hanger, is good. I just changed the oil 2 hours ago. What a dumb place for the oil filter! Makes it pretty hard to get it off without making a mess. I took out the plugs and they're all a healthy light beige. The air filter is dirty, but I think I'll wait a while to change that. If I can find my camera I'd take some better pictures of the car tomorrow and post them here.

Upshift speed actually sounds about right. I have a hard time getting mine over 5k - need to stand on it.

Clunks can be a variety of things - CVs, steering rack, etc. In the rear, my only thought would be the spring too loose in its perch. Need to isolate those front clunks, though - or just tighten everything up.

Congrats on the purchase - from the digicam pics, it looks like a great find!
