  • Hyundai poised to bring I10 to the US in 2010

Hyundai is preparing to bring the I10 subcompact to the United States as early as 2010. Size and weight (1870lbs) are between the SmartForTwo (1800lbs) and the Honda Fit (2400lbs). Power is expected to be provided by a 1.2L 88hp 4cyl for the US version. It's currently produced in India for about 30 different countries, and the US version is expected to gain about 500lbs in US specific safety and emissions equipment. It's currently not known if it will be marketed as a Hyundai, Kia or both.

if it has the Hyundai name, don't they have a great power-train warranty?

^what good is a warranty if the car always in the shop?

Besides, read Hyundai's fine print on that warranty...

yup. Not saying Hyundais are all bad. Actually fairly decent. Just commenting on warranties in general...

here is a good write-up and picture:

See spy shots, read reviews, first drives, auto show news, photos & specs of muscle cars. Read news and updates on supercars, sports cars, hypercars luxury cars, electric cars, trucks, SUVs, and car tech.

I remember the days when people laughed if you bought a Hyundai. Working as a Saturn Sales consultant years ago, I sold many Saturns simply because the tow trucks with broken-down Hyundai's on the hook had to drive right past the Saturn showroom to get to the Hyundai service bays!
Really they are getting better all the time.
If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.

The good thing is even if American's go back to their ways in a few years of giant SUV's and tanks we will have all of these little cars around for cheap like the festiva :-)

being an Indian citizen i have to share my point of view on this...
i10 has proven to be a huge success for India as its a cheap car(considered very reliable)!! Her predecessor Hyundai Santro is by far one of the most reliable & economical cars in the Indian market... 2 of my cousins own one... Yes, not so much on the power side but i don't think we are worried about that

One thing that boggles my mind is Hyundai is considered crap in North America whereas back home its in the top 3(am leaving the civic out).. My dad owns a accent and that car still runs like new considering he has owned it for 6 yrs and has taken a lot of battering from Indian roads ..LOL

Those article specs said a nearly 1900 pound curb weight. They were saying an additional 400 pounds to get it U.S. legal. That would be 2300 pounds, folks, with around 80 hp from that 1.2L.

                        Hmm. Not so great.

If they could keep weight to 2000 lbs and put in a 90-100 hp engine, then okay.

                        Or a nice diesel.

Hyundai came out with a 1.2 liter turbo. Haven't heard if they will put it in the i10.
My wife has a 2008 Hyundai Accent. She averaged 33 MPG in tough winter stop & go highway commuting traffic. I took it for 3 day trips in the mountains. Got 42.6MPG going over a 5500 foot mountain pass near Mt. Rainier & 45.2MPG going over a 1400 foot pass. The Accent runs sweetly & has a slick short-shifter. Make sure the dealer installs that shifter. It is the 2nd best shifter I've ever used when shifting up. Its a bit sticky shifting down, & some practice is needed.

On the Hyundai Accent websites, many people love their Accents with few trips to the mechanic. My wife has an Accent & its running along immaculately with no trips to the dealer for repairs. I've taken her car to the mountains & gotten mid-40MPG tanks. Recently, one dealer sold new 2008 Accents for $8000. Seems to be a fine deal, except the 5 speed manual tranny needs a sixth gear. If you're a feather footer tho, you may not need the sixth gear.

Hey have u guys seen the new hyundai genesis? that car is amazing i can't read enough about it, and so far all the magazines are raving about it. in 2010 they are suppose to come out with a 2 door coupe model powered by either a v6 or a 2.0 turbo. It will be the car to replace to tiburon as far as size goes, only it will be RWD. When it comes out i will deff. have to test drive one, it looks like a infinity g35. I also read in this months article of motor trend, who have an awesome story and comparison of it and other cars in its class, that hyundai is currently taking the development of there 4.6 v8 in the genesis and making it into a 5.0 400hp monster. Sounds like lexus, Mercedes, and infinity better watch there back, there is a new guy in town
