  • i want everyones input

i know this question maybe should be in the "turbo" forum but i have a question and have been loosing sleep and want everyones input. so i have big plans for my festiva i am curently running the b6t setup. i purchased a b6t motor that needs to be assembled it has weisco pistons, xr2 rods (which i was thinking of getting bell techs) a ported head the block is all machined just needs to put together, now heres the clincher i recently bought a 1.8 BP-t its completly stock, i have a set of gude cams for it. the future plans for this motor is web cams, ported egt head, maybe weisco or JE pistons bell tech rods and what ever else. now i know what your thinking why did you pay $$ for a perfectly good bpt and going to tear it apart? well i got the bpt cheap and its low miles and clean!! what i want to do with the festiva is make it a weekend drag car. i have a kia g series trans in the mail so i will almost have a bullet proof trans. now the festiva can make sufficent enought power with a built b6t maybe around the neighborhood of 250-300 but it seems like people are making big numbers with the bp as well in the 400-500 hp now im lucky enough to own one of the lightest production cars (the festiva) and probably wont need 500hp so im stuck should i just build the b6t for now because i have all the parts? or should i just skip the b6t, sell it and build the bpt? money really isnt going to be an issue soon as i am selling my other project car to fund the festi. i may build the bpt and keep the built b6t as a back up to i was thinking. today i just sold my hot wheels collection for $1000 bucks and its burning a hole in my pocket i want to order a neukin manifold before i end up buying something stupid. the neukin manifold is such a sexy piece i was thinking of maybe asking them if they could just put a BP exhaust flange on it. the runner are just a little further apart i dont think it would be that hard to use the bp flange instead of the b6 but i dont know how there jig is made up. i invite all input help me sleep again!

Man I would just slap in the bpt as is. Way less money, way more durable, way too much power in any case. Then you could still sell the b6t. The only way you'd be able to apply more than 300 horsepower is to 4wd it. No matter what you do I'm rootin' for ya bigtime!

from seeing mattswabb's BPT it looks like a very very tight fit as compared to the B6T, so i don't know how much room would be there to upgrade the turbo on the BPT, but on the other hand a built BPT should make more power than a built B6T

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

finish your car it will blow mine away ho. and your into bikes now.... why?!?!?!? thanks for the input i plan on ordering a neukin manifold next week (hopefully they still make them) damkid your right about the room though thats why im a little hesitant but my car we dropped the cross member lower (below the rack) so i have a little more room up front then most swaps but then again definetly goinh to have to box the fire wall for the intake.

              Viper motor

I was thinking of putting a Viper engine in mine. I had the engine in the garage, but ended up selling it. It's far too long, and there would be too many modifications. I should have taken a picture of both of them together!

You have a very valid question and it is something I would also lose sleep over.
This is how i would rationalize and solve the question.......

Either engine in good shape will provide more HP and durability than you can wish for.

That being said....I would look at the torque curves of each motor and pick the one that most closely matches your desired driving habits.

I have had time with a 1.8L...it's a great engine...the only problem with it is that they never made enough of them!!!!
