With the engine and transmission removed, what would it take to make a rolling chassis... say for towing or otherwise moving the car around? I'm thinking maybe the outer part of the CV joint with the spline and bearings from a junk axle might do it. I've never had this part of the car disassembled so I can't say my idea is doable.

yea you need an axle in to hold it together!! i didnt know better and didnt have the axles in it, so i was moving it around the shop one day and the wheel feel of and the car fell, luckly no damage but like you said i would find a crap axle to stick just the outer piece in the hub with the axle nut and you should be ok

if you dont have an spare axle or two you could use big washers and a bolt and nut to keep the bearings togetherNeil
