My best friend and his wife bought a 03 pt cruiser from her boss that was a 5 speed. Neither of them could drive stick(I actually drove their new car before they did, lol!) I taught them both and within a week they were shiftin' like the pro's. Good job!

          Nice job.

When I taught the kids...I put the in the driveway...a slight hill a couple of hundred feet long...and had them pop the clutch with out any gas. After they mastered that we practiced a lot of down shifting from 1st to 2nd.

When ever they asked, "when do i shift?"...I only answered you have to become one with the car...if you do...it will tell you when.

They were flying thru the gears within a day.

I wouldn't worry too much about the clutch. I've taught my three oldest to drive stick in my Festiva with no ill effects, other than my nerves

i too, learned to stir gears in a festiva, and taught my 3 freinds in it, i lurched and stumbled my way to a cemetary to learn, couple hours i was looking for a twisty road, but all i found was a really grumpy cop.
