  • My lil ole KIA

I thought it's about time I showed you lot mine on this side of the pond. It's in regular use, but also used for grass autotesting. That's a bit like your autocrossing, but on a tighter course on grass.

Sounds like fun. One thing for sure, if there's any possible way to compete with automobiles, the Brits have done it. "Trials" go back a long, long way.
Thanks for posting. Any more pics?

The club I'm in do a lot of trialling, I've thought of trying the Kia (1300cc carburrettor) as it pulls from about 500 RPM, but it's got a serious lack of ground clearance. The cat, petrol tank, petrol and brake pipes all look quite vulnerable. I don't want to lift it up on larger wheels as that would affect the gearing, and spring assisters tend to lead to broken springs.
        I'm still thinking.
Here's an album of photos of the event - it's all pretty low key:

might i suggest a suspention from a Ford Festiva '94-97, springs and all... that will give you another 3-4 cm clearance and it's all bolt on and factory reliable.

In two years of using it, I've had one first in class, and a couple of seconds.
This last event wasn't too good. It was so wet, it was a lottery as to whether or not you'd stop through lack of traction. The event was held on a slope!
I was also a passenger to a couple of novices, letting them use my car, so I wasn't able to devote a lot of time to thinking about best lines and stuff - poor excuses.
I'm in the same class as Minis (the original). If I can beat any of them I consider I've done well.

We've started autosolo events (which seem very similar to your autocross). I might give one of them a go. The rules require the car to be street legal, and driven to the event on public roads.
