  • Question on the festy computer box

Hi all. I am not posting this in the repair section because it's not really a repair. I just need to know, is the computer box specific to not only the engine, but also the transmission? Are they interchangeable between manual and automatic?

    Thanks for any help!

I believe for the fuel injected 90-93 models there is one computer for both manual and automatic. It's the B376 computer by the way. Are you having problems with yours right now? Hope this helps

Pretty certain that the ECU in the festiva has little, if any, control/feedback over the tranny, manual or ATX.
Others may have more direct knowledge.

Thanks guys. I'm not having problems with mine, but my parents just bought an '89 L that's not running, and the guy said the computer is bad. The car is an automatic. I'm towing the car to my house tomorrow. Since there are no time constraints on getting it running, I'm going to tackle it. LOL Nothing like like diving right in, eh? But hey, I have all the manuals:book: AND you guys! No problem! LOL We'll see how enthusiastic I am in a couple of weeks!:confused2:

They are known as PAL cartridges, and are available at Autozone in the fuse section. They are plastic, and look nothing like the original wires. 20 and 30 amp is what I have been using (pink and blue). I know there are pictures around here somewhere if you still have trouble finding them. I always try to carry spares with me.

Yeah try those fuses first. The computer is behind the speedo and to the drivers side under the dash.

Thanks G and everyone. I have spent hours reading posts here and those fusible links were first on my agenda!

It will probably take me some time, but I'll be sure and keep you all posted on the progress of 'Not Red Fred' (the new cars name LOL).

i know for a fact the ecu has nothing to do with the tranny since ive torn a couple of these things apart and there are no wires from the harness going to the tranny, also the auto store manual i have says nothing about ecu control on the tranny.

I also live in weldon, am i close to you? if so id be more n willing to help you try n get it running, send me a pm if youd like some help, see what i can do.
