  • saying hi

just introducing myself and saying hi.

my name is Doug, i am 17 and i live in Hardin, KY.....

dont currently have a Festiva, but i am planning to get one soon....

dad had a Aspire sitting in his yard with a trashed engine last time i was there.....if its still there in going to try to con him out of it to get the brakes.....then time to save up for a b6t and this list of mods i have so far......hehe..

o yah, anyone know how light you can make a festiva? this wont be a daily driver, so stereo, dash, interior (besides the 2 front seats) wont be needed......im thinking maybe 1500 pounds?

    anywho, wish me luck!

you could probably get the sucker lighter than that. my 94 was only 1600 and that was all stock (except the 2 to 3$ worth of soda bottle in the back)

I don't know how much the dash weighs, but it seems like 1500 would be a reasonable goal

      Other things to do

Remove windsheild washer resivoir-possibly wiper too if you only drive on nice days
      manual seatbelts
      replace windows with lexan
get lighter racing seats(those plastic+foam ones are really cheap and light)
get a lighter battery, you could probably drop 15 lbs right there

arg, I've been making procurment lists all day at work and I'm starting to think in list form. :hal

        im thinkin i could:

        -lose the dash
        -lose the center console
        -lose the carpet
        -lose the sound deadener
        -lose all the interior panels
        -lose the wipers
-lose the seatbelts (although they would be replaced with 4 point belts)
        -lose the washer fluid bottle
        -lose the headliner
        -lose the heater core
        -lose the back seat
        -lose any unnecessary wiring
-drill holes in the bumpers (the steel part, not the covers)
        -lexan windows
        -fiberglass hood
        -racing seats lighter battery

thats probably about all that could be done weight wise.....but then i would add probably 30 pounds with a 4 point rollbar.....

the below is guesses on the weight savings......

        -dash - 7 lbs?
        -center console - 1 lbs?
        -carpet - 5 lbs?
        -sound deadener - 20 lbs?
-interior panels - 25 lbs? (counting the door panels)
        -wipers - 10 lbs?
-washer fluid bottle - 1 lbs?
        -headliner - 4 lbs?
        -heater core - 5 lbs?
        -unnecessary wiring - no idea...
-drill holes in the bumpers (the steel part, not the covers) - 5 lbs?
        -lexan windows - 15 lbs?
        -fiberglass hood - 5 lbs?
-racing seats - 20 pounds? (between the two)
        -back seat - 5 lbs?
        -lighter battery - 15 lbs?

thats 143 lbs....minus 30 lbs for the rollbar....that puts it at around 100-110 lbs if my estimates on weight are even halfway close
