I have a question. I read one of the threads before about cleaning the honeycomb out of convertor. I live in a state where we have to get emissions checked. I know it will releve back pressure cause honeycombs get clogged. Can they tell if it has been cleaned out. Basically all they do is put mirror down and check to see if its still there. And, whats best way to clean it out. One said take tire iron and clean it. Whats best way so it doesnt get damaged.

yea, i figured all they would have to do is look at test results and have an idea of what they should be and what it shows when they test it. I guess comes the old saying "If it aint broke, dont fix it"

the substrate (honeycomb) only gets clogged if you have serious engine issue. If the engine is running correctly, the converter should be relatively clean. If you want to try to remove any buildup you beleive may be present, run a quart of water thru the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line, while running the engine at 1500-2000 rpm, at operating temp. that will steam clean both the combustion chamber and the converter.

If youre car is running good enough it may pass emissions without a functioning cat.

Just remember though, when you pound out all that stuff in there, youre throwing away $50+ in scrap platinum, among other things.
