Not to discredit my Festiva interest, but I am also considering leaving the Festy sit and focusing on improving my 1992 Explorer. I'm sure that's an idea that doesn't sit well with many of you lol but I do love my Explorer. I also have a Festiva obsession. Hmmmm..

Then again I feel guilty leaving such a fine piece of human engineering wither away in a lonely storage lean- to.

If it's free, it's well worth it.

I'd fix the Festiva before improving your Explorer. True, gas has gone down for the moment, but don't think OPEC is going to ignore the lower demand. They'll be lowering production soon to "even things out."

Plan for gas to get back up to $3 and up as winter hits us.

BTW, Festivas are pretty good in the snow, too!

Get looking for a transaxle and whatever else you need. You are now appointed to save this Festiva.

I agree with FB71, you should stay as far away from it as possible. Except to arrange shipping to WV. lol. Just kidding. Sounds like a nice find. Gas, oil, definitely check the brake lines, etc. But, sounds like something you should snap up. Oh, and post some pics when you do. We like pics.

BTW there are only like 5 different festiva keys, find someone that has a festiva and try their keys in your car it may work.

So true. I test drove another festiva with the key to my car. Left him a note telling him to call me if the car was still for sale, as it drove very well. Needless to say, he was not entirely happy with me.

i've never done the brake lines in my festy... yet.. but come to think of it, i may need to.
sometimes when i depress the brake, it goes farther to the floor (still stops), but then if i release it, then immediately depress it, it brakes normal.

how hard are brake lines to replace and what is the cost roughly at Autozone, o'reilleys etc for lines?

Forget all about the "five different key rule". Remove the upper and lower steering collumn trim pieces. On the opposite side on the ignition switch (where you would put you key in) There's a little circular thing with like 4 wires sodered to it. There should be one or two screws holding it on. Remove these and pull the piece out. Stick in a short flat screwdriver and give it a turn. This is after you have made all the repairs though. You could take the lock cylinder out of the hatch or door and you take it to the locksmith they should be able to depth cut a new key for you without an extra key.

I also want to welcome you to the site. Forget the "exploder" and fix the festiva! I owned a 92 2 door sport eddie bauer...push button 4wd, sunroof, privacy glass, blah, blah, blah. I blew a trans in mine on the highway when it downshifted to passing gear, then the transfer case gernaded. Followed my a massive exhaust leak, that would make it run rich and backfire everytime i turned it off. I fixed it and sold it back in 99 for 3000. Get into the festiva now!

I'm sad to report that the prospects of me obtaining this Festiva are dwindling. Note my username is "festivadream" because it's only a dream. The Festy's transmission is just laying there next to it, I don't even know it it starts or not. It needs a new exhaust system I believe, and the windshield is cracked substantially. Don't get me wrong, I love the Festiva, but my Explorer is far better and worth far more than I could get for the Festy. It would also cost me far less to renovate the Explorer than the Festiva. It just comes down to money unfortunately. If any of you are interested in this car I may be able to hook you up with the owner though. Let me know!

It's just getting broken in only having 136,000 on it! How long has it sat? Mine sat for 4 years and fired right up the first time and even drove on the trailer!

That is amazing ! 4 years ! ....and yes.....any Festiva is a GOOD one ! Too bad we can't save them all. They are an economy box, but I love 'em, even tho the Corvette guys fly by, and "wouldn't be seen in one !" :angryfire:

                                Jeezz....idiots....

Seriously, they should be kept, and it only proves the technology to get stong high mileage cars is here, has been here. Why buy these hybrid cars ?
The least we can do is preserve the Festivas as great commuter cars, and handle with care !

Definitely yes...try to get the Festiva, and give it TLC. Fun to save them !
