  • Well my sister hit a deer tonight...

She is ok, but I fear for the Festiva...I'll try to get out there this weekend to survey the damage and I'll post pic's if I can.

^^ +1. Seems to be going around. I barely missed one in the Groundhog Slayer two days ago. There is about a 3 mile stretch of road near my place where a deer gets hit almost daily. At least hunting season is upon us, so perhaps the herd will be thinned a bit.

Glad to hear everyone is alright. Hope the Festy is not beyond repair.

It looks as if the radiator, fan, top front frame, hood and mabey a headlight are the only major casulties. the bumper doesn't even have a scratch on it.

I went on a band trip yesterday, and we were on a coach bus, on the way back it was completley dark out, and we hit a deer, as soon as i heard it hit, i looked out and I saw the deer go flying into the ditch!!! we didnt stop because all it was was a little bump, and nobody was hurt at all, but when we got back, we noticed it scratched the bumper up and tore the blinker off

                              poor Bambi!(and Jiminy Cricket!)

I once hit a doe in my '66 VW square back sedan early one morning the summer of '97 traveling really slow due to all the deer road killed that season up near Northport, WA driving alongside Lake Roosevelt near the Canadian border.(lots of people tanning road-kill deerskin then which is supposed to be illegal, and someone stopped and picked up the one I'd killed asking permission first while I'd been there about three hours using a 5 pound sledge hammer I'd luckily had aboard, to bang the fender out enough to be able to drive again)

Often "vegan" I'd accepted a free venison burger someone offered me not long after at the fall Republic, WA Barter Faire; reasoning along with politeness, as my grandfather had admonished, "you kill it, you eat it." And remembering having eye contact with the nursing mother as she'd jumped a guard rail alongside the road from behind some brush growing right up to the guard rail an instant before slamming into my car .(hey, what about a tasty "bug relish" scraped off the windshield a person could save the ingredients for in a jar then process when enough is accumulated...)
