  • Something looks strange about this car..

I was told this has factory paint on it... I really don't want to buy something that doesn't have the factory paint (every re-painted car I've got has been completely screwed )

This car is a fair ways away... and I don't want to spend 200 bucks on a plain ticket to find out It's just another re-painted hack job that some one's trying to pawn off to a sucker like me

Nah that's just a photo taken with a bad camera... then compressed down even worse ... I'm talking about the gray "trim" ... Did festivas ever come with trim that thick... or does it look painted?

Hrrm.. That makes me think the owner lied about "Factory paint"

... that also makes me wonder what else he lied about

Good thing I've got a buddy near there that's gonna check out the car before I fly there.

Im sure it has factory paint on it somewhere..... J/K Ive never seen a two tone festiva. The black lower half is usually done to hide the rust or damage. Im not saying that is the case with this car. Like Willie says, its hard to tell from one photo.

Ok, luckily my friend going to see this one is a professional photographer

I should have about 50-60 high quality pictures of the car to mull over before I make my decision.

Yes, 1 picture really not enough to buy a car sight unseen.......

I recommend, when looking for rust that you look at the seems where the exterior sheetmetal folds under to be welded to the interior. For example, the hatch. Open the hatch and look where the sheetmetal folds under. If that fold is is protruding away from the hatch, there is rust. If you open the driver's door and lay on the ground, look at where the sheetmetal folds under the door. Is the edge of that sheetmetal pulling away from the door? Hang on, I'm going to go get a picture or two to show you what I mean. BRB.

These two pics were taken of the same hatch. There is no exterior rust on this hatch.

                          Good seam.

                          Seam starting to separate.

If you look under the door, at that seam, where it has been painted over, and it looks worse than second pic, then I would say they have done a cover-up.

                              Hey Amos,
I'm not telling you to NOT buy it. All I'm saying is what to look for. If it is a fender or a door or a hatch that is the problem, then that is easily fixed with a different piece. I think they make magnets that can tell where there is bondo. Worth checking your local auto parts stores.
