  • Methane from "waste"

    Here ya go; read this:

Now how to solve two problems, if possible:

Swear off our water based sewage system to use "night soil" for POWER.

Kindly discuss. I ain't no chemist.

    Keep it clean!

    Safety Guy,

I is a chemist, and much of what is there is true.
But, the down side, and you knew it was coming, calculate how much "night soil" you will need to run your vehical over the 10-20K miles you drive a year.
Also, factor in that the conversion from chicken/pig "effuent" to human extrusion will be less.
I do not doubt it can be done, but wonder at the time and cost to process/store/and convert a vehical to methane.
Understand to get any range you need a special compressor to reach the 3,000 psi to liquify methane at ambiant temps.
    These are not cheap.
Let alone the tanks both on board and as well has your main storage facility.
I've been looking at this for 30 yrs.
It can work, but do not beleive it can be done on a personal scale especially those of use who live in the urban jungle.
Now, if you were a farmer, the possibility might be an option.
But then wonder at the time/effort required and would think the famer has better things to do with his time.
    It still interesting!
I have look at taking it one step father and utilizing C1 chemistry convert the mathane to liquid fuels.
But this too has it stubling blocks.

Somewhere on the iNet, I read a list of the latent (?) energy in the solid waste products of various farm animals. Chickensheet wasn't very high on the list. I do remember a news paper article years ago on a local guy running a Renault 4CV on chicken house premium.
