Why do most festys have a dent...

...over the fuel door?

I've bought and sold over a dozen so far, and at least 9 of them have had a dent there. This got me thinking...why?

My best guess is, sometime over the years, someone leans against the car while filling up, then "pushes off" with their rump when finished, pushing the thin metal inward.

Latest example: the red festy on CL Austin over in for sale section.

Any other guesses?

its a dimple from the Festy smiling at all the other cars because it does not need to fuel up nearly as often....

I put one in mine at the first fill after lowering the car. Missed the hole by "that much"

I just drive by the station, or behind a tanker.

Probably cause by people trying to pick them up. I had one with a dent in both back fenders from this.

I was wondering why so many L models have the molding UNDER the door missing.....does the gas eat up the glue? Noticed that happens too.

Well the metal used for these cars is pretty thin. I think if you look at it hard enough it could cause a dent - LOL! The other thing is dents on the hood from people sitting on it. It's a car not a chair for christ's sake - LOL!

My passenger side door looks like somebody had a few rounds of potato gun target practice on it, or possibly a motorcycle leaned up against it... the rest of the panels are pretty straight, on small chesnut dent in the roof though.

The worst dent is panel cave-in when someone closes a door and it doesn't close because of the tightness of the interior and they bump it with their hip...CAVE-IN of door skin. I have to tell people to close the door and if it doesn't close to slam it from the window frame area...not with thir hip or hand on the doors.
