They would be a handfull on a unseen patch of black ice, 4in. deep puddle or that ridge of dirty salty slush that always builds up on the highways! I've owned a Samurai tin top for 7 years. And it never fits in the snow tracks of the standard normal size? car. It can be a real white knuckle ride sometimes! And i'm sure the Smart would be the same if not a lot worse!

When I was in the Maritimes last summer I spotted all sorts of D-smarts rolling around. I was able to ask a couple folks about them while parking, they both said capiable of 60+mpg.

What I thought was even better was the HB-Toyota Echo's (which OF COURSE we didn't get!) I use to have a 2-door sedan with 160K on it, and easily pulled 50+MPG. The reason is the VVT-i 1.5L motor. I have a friend who's a Toyota dealer, he sees them come in with 300k+miles on them, running like new. I was tempted to buy a nice 2-door HB up in Canada, then sneak it across, buy a totalled sedan somewhere and switch VIN's. They're like a festy, only newer, quicker (stock) stouter and even better MPG.

For all the "we live in the best country in the world..." sentiments out there, we sure get our choices limited for us alot.
