  • Other vehicles in our lives...

I know, after going festy, where else is there to go?

Myself, I've been into a few other vehicles before Festiva took over...

88 Toyota van 4wd (The Humpfritter)

I'm not sure how many were sold here in the US (sold like VW bugs the rest of the world) I do know there aren't too many left. (Levitan has one) The 4wd was only sold from 87-89 and most of those were auto trans. I searched for over a year to find my 5-spd, wrecked, being used as a storage bin for a live-aboard sailboat fella in Seattle. That was 2002. Since then I've added 15 inch Samuari wheels, Westy interior, insulation, a 2wd power moonroof, a second radiator, 2nd gas tank and a bunch of other little dirt-bag camping aminities. I'm able to pull 25MPG @ 55mph, which isn't bad for a 4wd vehicle you can comfortably sleep in. I lived in this rig off and on for 3 years. I made the mistake of selling it a while back to a NYC fella that doesn't know the difference between a gas cap and a dunce cap. I got a call about 3 months later, "I never knew you could drive a manual trans. like an auto trans, I haven't used the clutch yet! Oh, and why can't I get it into gear anymore?" I flew to NYC, bought it back from him at a discount, actually DID drive it 1200 miles whithout a clutch (starting in gear, crashing boxing, driving late at night thru cities) I even though my parking situation is crowded, I couldn't stand the thought of having my van be towed off to the wrecker. Amazingly the trans. was fine, the clutch was destroyed. I'm getting ready to install a propex heater in her for ice fishing and other Mn. winter excursions.

    1978 Toyota Dolphin (14 foot)

I'm not even sure why I bought this other than I'm trying everything I can to get my girlfriend to travel and camp with me (This is my last effort) I found it on the local CL here in StC Mn. It's rust free amazingly enough, 75K orig. miles. Has a three burner stove, fridge, sink and all the other RV amin.'s except the most important one...a heater! I figure I can always sell it for what I paid for it. It was a 20R with a nice header ($400) a new radiator and clutch. It's rumored to get 23mpg on a good day.

    1979 Toyota 4wd truck

another vehicle I don't really need, but comes in handy once in a while (hauling the motorcycle. Hauling garbage, etc.) I paid $400 bucks for it, 120K orig. miles. I have a crazy idea to add the dolphin rear end to it (exact same size) and have a 4wd camper.

Then there's all the metros and festivas out there. I had a 1992 Subaru Justy 4wd, but got sick of working on it and never driving it. If you ask me, they are junk.

Okay, obviously I'm bored. What else we got floating around out there?

    Brenton
    Because....45 MPG.

    Lets see,
I started with a 89' Plymouth Horizon. Got me started in "project cars" Owned it for 2 years, fixed it 1.5 of em and drove it till I wrecked it 6 months later. Had an Ejection Seat sticker on the drivers door. Fun car.

Then there was the 93/94 toyota corolla. I learned the value of oil changes when after 11000 miles of no oil changes I threw a rod. I also learned that they don't go offroad well when I wrecked it in the forest preserve.

Then the 98' Pontiac Grand prix. My most expensive car. Pain in the arse to work on and broke upon hitting potholes. It was quite fast too. got me in too much trouble. My now ex drove it and it has recently been traded for another vehicle.

Then there was the 92' Jeep Cherokee Limited. Great Jeep but had problems. 500,000 miles on it and the engine still runs (I still have it too) Paid $900 for it and never took it offroad. Ended up junking it, what was left...

Then the 96' Jeep Cherokee Classic. Didn't have any drivetrain when I got it. Won't ever be street legal so It's awaiting a V8 engine swap. Still have this one at my dad's. It will run one day I have big plans for it.

Then comes the 93 Ford Festiva L (minus 300) You've all seen this so we need not go any further...

And finally my newest aquisition, my 94' Jeep Cherokee Sport. (think I like Jeeps? Naw...)
This needs a little work but in my oppinion was worth trading the Grand Prix for. Good thing I gots extra parts though. Runs well and came with 20" rims which will soon be gone. Gotta get regular 15" rims and bigger tires like a Jeep should have. Either way I have plenty of spare parts for most of it and it runs reliably so thats all I need right now.

More soon to come I'm sure. Just as soon as I find a place to store more vehicles.
If you can't fix it with a hammer you have an electrical problem.

Lets see, I've had a few for being 22.

First was the 1991 Dakota, bought it off my dad when I got my liscense, great truck he bought it back off me a couple years ago and still uses it in the summer to haul around stuff.

Then it was the 77 Town Car, the most regrettable vehicle I've ever sold. But I didn't have the funds or space to keep two vehicles going.

Then the 1969 Westfalia, bought it fixed it up, camped and partied for a summer with it and sold it for a profit.

Kept the VW trend going with a 1966 Beetle, an older resto mod that was getting pretty rusty but was a blast to drive and got me back and forth to college for a year. Sold it to some pot grower who's probably letting it rust away in a barn.

Then bought a 78 Lincoln Mark V Diamond Jubilee, 70s luxury and excess at its best, sold it when I moved to the island.

Then bought a bush beater 88 F250, it was fun to wheel and beat on but overall I hated it.

Stuck with Ford and bought a 1995 F-350 Crew Cab, bought it for dirt cheap because it had been sitting, did a little work and cleaned it up and sold it for close to triple what I payed.

Then came the festy, bought it, tuned it up and my girlfriend and I have been driving trouble free for over a year and about 50,000kms.

Theres my other current and future car, 2007 Hyundai Accent, more fun than any of the other new, cheap hatchbacks out there.

Bouth another Westfalia, 1979, last year of the body style. Did the same thing with it. Fixed it up, had fun, sold it to a kid returning from Ahfganistan.

The last vehicle bought and sold was this, a 1978 F-250 Camper Special, really liked it but I really don't need a truck so I sold it.

Whats next? Not too sure, I think I might save up a little bit and buy a nice AWD 90's sedan or Wagon. Audi quattro, Mercedes 4matic or a nice Subaru. Either way the Hyundai and the Festiva will be sticking around

First car was 75 olive green four door comet. Had a sweet inline six, but the valve stem seals were going. Sold it for 650, bought it for 200
Next was a 91 festiva L. Wound up stripping it and selling to the place I now work at. I miss Invisitiva.
Next was a 93 festiva L. This was my project car, aka frankenstiva, I wrapped it around a pole. Backwards.
Bought a 91 festi GL at the city auction. Needs a safety, still working on it. It may be the new project car.
Currently driving an 85 camry. Good beater, but that's about it.
I'm putting together a 300zx, and by putting together I mean it's in storage till i can get to it. Probably after I'm done the festi.
Of course the red makes it go faster..

Steve, I'd have thought you'd have learned by now when you make such statments your asking for someone to bring you down!
I will to bet we have someone here that has had way more than that.
I know of a few here, but they may not speakup, and I will not call them by name, it's their call!

In the past I have owned:

8 Festivas of various vintages - they taught me all I know about cars!

'77 VW Rabbit (free, had a blown engine. Sold for $50 to a coworker who turned it into a racer)

'86 Isuzu Pup. Bought from some elderly neighbors of mine, was a great little truck. I still regret selling it.

'79 Subaru Brat. FUN little truck, but for some reason it ate clutch cables. I sold it to my uncle who got t-boned a month later.

'87 Volvo 740 GLE. This was hands down the nicest ride I ever had. Heated leather seats, sunroof, A/C, and more sheet metal than a tank! I sold it to a friend who gave it to his daughter for her 16th birthday. I see it rolling around every once in a while.

                        Here's what I got now:

'89 Auto Festiva w/ A/C. My daily driver and perhaps the most trouble-free Festy I've ever owned:

'73 Ford Courier. I just bought this a few days ago and am going to pick it up soon. It's a really cool rebadged Mazda 1800 and will make an awesome work truck/backup DD:

(not the actual truck because all the pictures I have of it are bad, but it looks exactly like this one)

                        -Tim
                        White '89L auto - Sold!
                        Silver '06 Rav4, 95k!

You and I have similar interests in cars...

Those Brats are clean! Mine had a magnetic attraction to rust and had giant holes by the rear wheels. And you're in New York too... how are those cars still so nice looking??

Where did you find all the 360's?
I only have two sedans, one with 37 miles and one for parts.
Is that a genuine Hot dog 360 vendor truck?
                            and a mini moke too!
Are you a member of the Subaru 360's driver club?
