  • Stock dyno session - 51whp

I wanted to get a baseline on my '93 Festy. With 246,000 miles it was able to lay down 51whp.

Look at that torque, 63ft/lb! Mods will come soon with dyno results.

63 ft/lbs! That thing must go through tires.

Take it back to the back porch, join the 3 string revolution.

Looks like a 19% loss, assuming he was making 63hp @ crank. Chances are with the miles he was less than 63hp. I've always heard 15% was a pretty close rule of thumb. When you have 300+ hp, 3hp is only 1%. When you only have 60-63 to start with then 3hp makes a big difference. Obviously auto trans takes more. Bottom line is he puts 51hp of fire-breathing Festiva fury to the ground!
I wonder what the difference in loss is between the stock Festy 5sp and an F series or G series. I always thought if I did a BP or B6T swap that an F trans would have plenty of strength in a light weight Festiva AND have less para loss along with less weight.

The local dyno shop always used 15% for manual trans and 20% for auto trans for drivetrain loss. I based my 17% on 62hp. I just looked in the Ford shop manual and it says that the engine was rated at 58hp. This would only be a 12% drivetrain loss.

you're correct Brian. The Festy was rated at 62hp, the Aspire at 63hp.

It'd be cool to see some results with a few mods, like replacing the airbox with a cone filter. 2" inch exhaust with a chambered muffler, turbo muffler, and a free-flow muffler. Different timing settings. Porting.... header....

Sorry Brian, I wasn't trying to nit pick your numbers!
In all seriousness, I'm pretty impressed with his 51whp considering the high miles. I would have guessed somewhere around 45 given the circumstances. Are the hp figures Ford posted SAE NET? Also, notice how flat the torque curve is and how it makes >50hp from around 4600 to about 5200. Fuel injection is a wonderful thing!

Awesome... that really speaks volumes for the little 1.3's reliability and longevity!

(Plus, it makes my 90 HP to the wheels seem like a BIG improvement...LOL)

when i dynoed my stock festiva i get a totaly diferent torque and whp curve.... yours dont get as much power as mine, but it is more consistent. I get a 53whp peak at 4800rpms and a 70ft/lb peak at 2800rpms... and then the torque goes down dramaticaly!!!
