The way I look at Festivas is the Law of Averages method. 1 out of every 10. Out of every 10 doors I knock on, 1 Festiva will be mine. That is based on 100 doors being knocked on. Sometimes you knock on 20 doors and the 20th door, the guy sells you 2. 2 outta 20 is the same as 1 outta 10. If you have better odds than that, then wooo hooo, Score!

Levistiva was purchased from a door knock. My Lx was purchased during the scouting of a different Festiva, and I just stopped to talk to the guy. Parts car was purchased after chasing the guy down in his Lx and leaving him my number. Those are all viewed as door knocks in my book.

there is definately some great info here. What i did was ask the owner if i can go have a look at it. Check out how much rust, miles, and just the overall shape of the vehicle. I then walked over to the owner and said "would you be interested in selling your festiva? If he says yes i ask "how much will you sell it for? in my case he said $300. (i always think to myself "i dont really need this" and if the price isnt right i simply dont buy it and im quite sure they want it gone and are just playing hard ball.) I said to him .. will you accept $200? He said dont you think its worth $300? (my response) well it doesnt run and theres quite a bit of rust on the quarter panels so i think $200 is quite fair. he said ok. i handed him cash and towed it away.

thats how i got one of mine. pretty much i think be polite and dont think you have to have it. i myself am always ready to walk away if they want to much.

I went and looked at one today at a used car lot. '89 carbed "L", silver, bald tires, 4 speed, 174,000, basically a roach. Dude said $1000 cash. I just said it was waaaay outta my price range and walked. Of course, the whole time I'm thinking, are you crazy!?

I'd sell my '89 maroon Lx with virtually all the goodies for $1000!

Before I got Old Red, I looked at a white 90' L 5-spd w/131xxx sitting at a salvage yard, the interior was trashed and it had some rust issues, and the guy wouldn't take anything less than $1500 for it!?!?! Needless to say I turned around and left...

I can't blame the yards for that. If they sell it to you for what it's worth, say $300, then it's over right then. They can instead sit on it and sell $1500 - $3000 (junkyard prices) worth of parts over a couple of years. They are in business afterall.

I knock on the door and when they answer Ill say
"Look here, that festiva has been sitting outside in the same place for the past four months. I looked inside and its filthy, the motors leaking oil, the seat are torn and looks like it hasnt been washed in a year. You should be ashame of yourself. Here is what your going to do. You going to go get the title right now and sign it over to me. If you do it quick enough Ill might be generous enough to leave you a few bucks for it. Otherwise you are going to have some trouble on your hands. Got that !! Now go get the title and oh yeah, from now on I dont want to see you around here with anymore festivas."

Then if they want to play hardball I go get the enforcer.

I don't think Levitan wants to drive all the way down here so I'll go buy a pawn shop shotgun and saw it off.

Should I mumble/and talk with my hands like in Godfather?

Take it back to the back porch, join the 3 string revolution.

Dont go getting carried away !! Start light, use some pliers or a cordless drill. Youve probably already have those things thus saving you the cost of a shotgun. Beside you want them to still be able to sign the title. It usually just takes a little persuasion. You be surprised how many people will opt for their fingernails over their festiva.

Shotguns are not necessary. The supermodel has everything under control when it comes to Fresh and Midwest Festiva Inc. I'll just go trip and fall on the dude! What are they gonna do, arrest me for assault & clumsiness?
