  • Bought 2 Mercury Capri cars today - one is a turbo!!

I bought a 93 XR2 turbo car and a 91 non-turbo automatic car today. The automatic car runs but the auto tranny is shot and the turbo car was being driven at highway speed when it just stopped on him.
I have a feeling the timing belt went (motor has 165K on it). Does that Mazda motor have valve clearance and would the head be trashed?
I have a really nice XR2 that has head gasket issues and I've been patiently waiting for another head to build in case there are problems with the one on my car.

Thanks 25, that'll make the deal sweeter!!

Looking also at a 91 hardtop car with aftermarket wheels that has lower miles but is wrecked in the front and been sitting for almost 2 years.

I was looking at capri's a few months ago. Have always wanted an XR2, test drove one new when they were on the dealer lots. Been browsing craigs (as you probably have)

Wouldnt mind an intake manifold off of the b6, will try to find out if the 91 miata head intake pattern is same as Capri? If you are going to tear down??
          Tks
Aspires and Sways all around, Miata B6 installed, KYB G2Rs just installed in front. Wish for coil overs someday.

I'll probably pull the head off of the turbo car to build for my car and piece the rest. I haven't picked it up yet and had the chance to go through it but that's the most likely scenario.
I had parted out another XR2 a couple years ago and I think I have the Turbo stuff from it. I'd have to look and see if the intake is still there.

I actually need the intake from a NA engine.. thats what Iam going for... Although, they might be the same intake seeing as the turbo mounts to exhaust manifold...

I had built a N/A head to install on my XR2 but was informed that the turbo head is different so the project has been sitting with a wrong application, but ready to install, head for about a year. N/A parts are not much of a problem, I have 4 N/A cars and parts from others parted out earlier and some parts off of the XR2 from a couple years ago.

sweet deal! so whats the plan for the B6T out of the xr2?

-"Hairlipstiva" 1991 GL 5spd (swapped from an auto), rolling on Enkei 14x6 +38 with 195/45/14 Toyo's, Jensen MP5720 CD deck, tach install, LED strip in cluster, down position rear wiper, FMS springs, Gabriel shocks on 4 corners, Acura Integra short shifter
-Escort GT 91 donor car with BP, G5M-R tranny to be dropped in the little guy...
                  -Aspire brake swap COMPLETE!

I need the head for my car, been waiting for awhile. If the belt's gone like I think it is I may pull the engine out and build the head to install on my car and set my old head on the donor engine, then find someone who needs it. It'll still be a complete engine, just partially torn down. It'd be good for someone that wants to build one up anyway.

Turbo car is actually pretty clean.... haven't looked too closely but it may warrant saving. You can see where the tree branch from our Dec '07 ice storm punched the soft top and windshield but that's all it did. It's got the better 3-spoke alloys and it's all there. Engine compartment looks good and unmolested save the brand spankin' new battery....WooHoooooo!!

I'll look more closely tomorrow, sun was setting. The older I get the more I prefer Summer.
