a few have been done. http://www.e-volks.com/geo.html
i personally think the festy would be a grat car to convert.
the weight of the festy is what makes it a prime canidate.
and do not use a automatic car, go manual only. this will help big time with battery range.
the biggest thing i can tell you is do alot of reading. you wouldbe suprised whats its going to take to make 1 work. most people think dump in electrc motor throw some batterys in and BAM electric car
you will need a engine plate, controller, contactor, motor to trans adaptor, charger, converter, ect ect ect.
overall i would %100 say DO IT. jusp on some of the ev forums and see whats been done and what suites you best.
a buddy and myself built him a v ford ranger a few years back. we even built a windmill topered generator to plug it into to charge it up when he's not using it. we did this as to truly make the truck free to drive minus the initial costs of building it. 35 miles is about its limit in normal conditions. with 9k on the odometer and no repair costs to date i think the 3k he has invested is working out well.
btw dont try to get a 60 hp electrical motor to put in a festy, 40 hp electric will really move it as well if not better than stock. the raings on electrical motors and gas are completly diffrent.
best of luck and keep us posted.88 mustang 427 stroker garrett t-76 turbo best run 8.86@ 151.56
