Levitan - You should be able to carry one of those small luggage sets with wheels (probably about 12" x 24" and 10 or 12" wide) without too much of a problem... If you're unsure, just get a decent size bookbag and carry that on with you and you'll be fine. My laptop bag is pretty big (fits a 17" widescreen laptop) and was filled with other gadgets to the max. My girlfriend carried on one of the small luggage sets, but the planes that we flew out in weren't big enough to accomodate that big of a carry on and they put it down under with all the regular checked on luggage, but we got it back as we got off the plane.

Be sure to get a bill of sale outlining the details of the transation, and have a witness of some sort sign it as well.

In Indiana it is illegal to drive a vehicle without plates. When I picked up our first festiva in Chicago, I took with us plates from one of our other vehicles. In Indiana you are allowed to operate a vehicle with other plates (registered to you) for the first 30 days after purchase.

I am glad I knew this before hand as 10 miles into Indiana on our drive home a wheel bearing seized. While waiting for a tow truck to arrive to get it off the freeway (free tows from AAA) a state trooper stopped to investigate. Required to run the plates, he came up to us and asked why the plates came back as a Lincoln Town Car..... Upon explaining and showing the paperwork, all was fine. He said we had done exactly as the law required. He said if we didnt have the plates on it, he would have written us a ticket.

So the first thing to do on a long trip to pick up a car is to check with the states that you are going to be driving through to determine what they require.

Second, I would throw my cheapy tools into a tool box and either ship them out there or check them on the plane.

Third, make sure I have a few hundred in cash in the wallet and enough available on the credit card to either buy a return ticket or rent a truck/trailer to get the car home, plus an extra day or two worth of expenses.

          ......your trip...........

Dan -- Highway patrol here told me to have the seller make a bill of sale to you with serial # of the car, year, color, mileage, ...all the basics .....date it, sign it, have both parties complete addresses, telephone numbers, and carry that bill of sale with you, and if you are stopped you have something to present the patrol/police. Kind of a "general description " of the car in that bill of sale.
Talk to insurance persons beforehand for details on that end, for yourself, if you drive it, or tow it, or trailer it.
And, as for me.....if you are in the northern part of USA, all would be welcome to park, or store a vehicle here on our place in the country, until a later date. I just need to know a bit ahead of time, have lots of room, away from town too.
          Thanks,

          mjd

Talked to Dan today, he was near Salt Lake City and said the car was running good and expected to be home tomorrow night. He had been hitting a lot of J/Ys along the way and says festivas are hard to find.

Because perhaps your 15 yrs old, do not travel across the US that much, and your resources are somewhat limited.

No, I don't travel across the US much, I did a few times, but that was when I wasn't into Festivas, and no, I wasn't saying that he Will sell the spoiler, I was just simply stating, that he Could sell it. I respect that he is willing to drive to California for a sweet looking Festiva, heck, I would if I could afford it, and I wasn't trying to state that he is really rich and can just jump up and go where ever he wants whenever. Sorry if people took me wrong.

Levitan- I can't wait to see this festiva!! I'm so excited to see what is all done to it!
