really?? I've worked on literally thousands of Taurus' (Tauri?), and I've only ever seen 3 or 4 of the 1st gen Vulcan 3.0L overheat.

I agree with Jim on this one,the only time I've seem the 3.0 overheat is when the waterpump went bad other wise you can't kill that engine!

Now the 3.8 and the 24valve 3.0 thats another story!!

lol well my comment about them being aspires is only half true... they just LOOK like big ugly aspires with a trunk lid, lol the brakes don't actually swap onto a festiva :-P

well I guess maybe both my tauruses had bad water pumps, though I think my problems were mostly caused by faulty thermostats

so Jim, you said the AXODE and the AX4S are very similar, are they similar enough that I could replace the trans with an AXODE if my car does have the AX4S? The AXODEs seem to be a lot more abundant at my local yards. Still haven't gotten the car home yet but I'm betting its an AX4S

the 24v 3.0 is a great engine. Its a great contour 2.5/svt frankenengine donor. The 2000? taurus was the best taurus imo. Sure there were faster ones but as a Ford vehicle....many made it past the warranty and are still out there. Sure its an ewww taurus but i have a neighbor that has a black one, dark tint, nice wheels...really classed it up. Id not mind having his. Black paint makes anything sexy. Yes even Taurii.

Anyways for 250 find a trans and you'll have a decent car for cheaper than i can find festies and aspires. Good find!

I love my 90 Taurus, only reason I had a blown headgasket was it sitting 90% of it's life, 120k miles runs beautifully...

Getting a few spots of rust here and there, but I've got touch-up paint (not the right color, but i'd rather have a few spots a darker gold than rusted through...)

I miss my '90 Taurus... and my '87... but the body style of this new one is starting to grow on me really fast. Not good since I'll probably be selling it as soon as I get it running :-(
