  • Fun, Fun, Fun!!!!

Interesting day, to say the least! Did a lil' junkyardin', found 2 Festivas, only scored a right side mirror. Came home, grabbed a phone book and discovered a "new" 60 year old jy that I had never known about...and only a few miles away. Call them, they have a Festy. I cruise down there, guy tells me where it's at, walk over there and discover a red GL in really, really nice shape! Alloys, newer tires, auto tranny, hatch wiper, 98k on the odometer. I'm thinking, Wow, this car is flippin' clean! I walked back to the office and asked if it would be possible to buy the whole car. Guy says, "sure." Turns around and asks another guy what they'd sell it for. 2nd guy says they can't because they are having a title problem. I ask, "hypothetically, if you had the title, how much for the car?" He says "X" amount of dollars(x=not much). Man, that is a crying shame! Not much money for a really nice ride. First guy says, tell ya what. You bring me that "X" amount of dollars and you can pull anything and everything off that car you want. I asked what time do you open in the morning? He says 8. See you then!!!

Oh, left out one part. The car WILL be crushed by Friday! So I have to get busy!

I'm going to pull every body panel first, so I don't harm anything. I need to pull rear spindles, and all wheels. I figured I'd jack the car up and stack wheels and tires under it.

I hope to move the car to a location that is close to electricity. That way I can plug an air compressor in and speed things up!

You junkyard guys, what is the fastest way to drop the whole drivetrain?

If you had 8 hours to strip every piece you possibly could, in what order would you do it?

Any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated!!

How come you can't apply for a lost title and use it as a driver?

I don't know and I don't have time to figure it out. They may want to crush it Thursday so I have tomorrow to get everything done.

Start with easy money making goodies, next the drivetrain and work down the line.....bodypanels take no time at all.

Just tell him you don't care about the title and buy the whole thing!....I'm guessing that wasn't a possibility though.

Man I wished I could get off tomorrow, Id be on my way up. I call dibs on the bumper covers if you get them and dont want them. Wish I could come help you, Id bring hawgkeeper with me. We could strip that car to nothing in eight hours with time to spare. Some air tools would definately help, spend the first five minutes with the PB blaster. Man I wish I could be there. 8^( Im great at disassembling ! Try to buy it and sign a waiver on the title or something. I could come up this weekend. Ive got three days off then. Whats the point in crushing it ? Only about $30/ton for scrap. The car is only worth $25 complete, a lot less with major parts removed.

if he said $100 for whatever you want, just throw the alloys on ebay for $100 and the rest of the parts will be freebies!

Unbolt the 2 each front strut attachment bolts in the engine compartment, fuel lines, trans linkages, brake lines, harness connectors, trans crossmember & drop the whole engine/trans/wheels out the bottom! Badda-Bing, Badda-Boom! Seats, fenders, doors... a few bolts & they're some real gone cats!

Sounds like I can bring jacks...at least he never said I couldn't. I just want to get close to electricity so I can run an air compressor. That would definately speed things up.

Hey Fresh, I could use some tips on removing that wire loom to the fuse block. I can get everything loose in the engine compartment. I know that the loom runs inside the driver's side fender, but not sure what to do from there.

                        Dan,
Buy the whole car and pull it out of there. I think I can help you with an abandoned car title here is South Dakota.
Just got one for my 91 L. Spend less time, and have a complete car to work with.

                        PM me,

Doesn't the ECU unplug & the connectors can be pulled out thru the fender w/the harness?

There is no short cut. Youll have to unplug everything under the dash. Including the combo switch, ignition, heater/ ac, door harnesses, gauge cluster, radio, relays, ECU, cabin harness, etc, its all connected inside. Dending on the options but on a GL probably the rear window defrost, rear window wiper switches too. The grounds are bolted on , you will have to get to them and unbolt them. There are two separate harnesses in the engine compartment.
