  • Something sounds funny.

    Alright.

Today I was running errands around town and noticed a noise coming from the dash of my car. At first, I thought a cat or something really small had crawled up into my car, and was rattling around, but the closer I listened the more it started to sound like water flowing.

I was parked in front of a bank for about 10 mintues and the sound stopped, but returned when I turned the steering wheel.

I've never noticed the sound before, so I'm assuming that whatever it is, it's a fluid and it's probably low, but I know absolutely nothing about automobiles.

    What do you think?

It sounds like it might be a problem with the power steering pump, especially if it is quiet while sitting until you turn the wheel. Just a thought.

            Well...
I have a bolt above the wheel well that keeps shaking loose, but other than that, there's no probelm.

And when I was parked, I could still hear it. It was only after 10 minutes that it stopped.
And then happened again when I turned the wheel.

The bolt has been tighten. I have no more problems with it now, and only makes noise when I go over speed bumps or ruts in the road when knocked loose. I know it's not the bolt because it makes a completely different sound, and I can feel it in my steering wheel.

It still sounds like a power steering issue of some sort. The pump might be getting ready to fail on you, or a problem with the rack and pinion unit.

The rack and pinion unit is what actually steers the wheels. They have been known to fail from time to time.

                        Oh.
                        Sounds expensive.

I wouldn't think that mine would fail.
The car isn't but 5 years old, bought new. :\

D took my car to work.
He said it's not the rack and pinion, or knuckle steering.
