for anyone who ever doubts the strength of a smart car watch this:

    1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

I still don't believe I would want to be in that in a 70 mph crash.

if you hit a wall at 70 mph in any car aside from a hummer you have little chance of living.

one thing i have noticed when people look at the smart is the think really unrational. Most ask "what if i get hit by a hummer, truck, tractor trailer ext?" and its really annoying. If you get hit in a toyota camery or honda civic by a hummer at 60 mph you are going to be in ICU or dead.

Thats actually america smog control. the euro version gets about 15% better mpg and the diesel version they wont allow to come to the us gets about 80 mpg.

I agree that I'm no where near buying a "Smart Car".

With my $750 Festiva turning in 44 MPG tank after tank of mixed highway and city driving, not burning a drop of oil, and with room to haul a ton of stuff with the back seat folded down, a "Smart Car" doesn't look very smart to me.

For as tiny and compromised as the Smart Car is, and at $20,000, it would have to get 90 MPG for me to be even vaguely interested in it.

And THEN I'd be looking at a diesel Citroen or an old 2CV or another Festiva first.

you can get a smart for 11,990 with no sales tax in CT. Add another 500 bucks for a stereo and your looking at a car that gets good milage and can park 2 per parking space.
