  • Just bought a Festi

    Hi Guys,

I just bought an 89 Festiva L, fuel injected with 184k on it. The engine runs great, no smoking at all and idles super smooth. The tranny was replaced a couple years ago, shifts good. Its got oil all over it, I'm thinking VCG and distributor O ring. I paid $750 for it but it needed brakes bad.

Pedal went to the floor and it took a long time to stop. I had to let a shop replace all the bearings and rear wheel cylinder and LF caliper. The front wheel bearings were loud as hell. I live 50 miles from where I bought the Festi and had no where to do the easy work, so I had to let a shop rape me. Don't you just hate paying someone to do something when you could do it just as easily for free. But $500 later, with new wheel cylinders, shoes, caliper, lower control arm, and new lug nuts cause somebody messed them up really bad, I have a very good running Festi. Just need to buff out the paint.

There is a really nice 91 model that is in very good condition, but they wanted $2500 obo for it. Do you think I did the right thing and bought this rough diamond or would you have gotten the super nice one, for possibly $2000?

I think for $40 you could rent a tow dolly and fix that thing at home.
    88 Festiva 5 speed
    89 Automatic L with 1 1/4 hitch
    93 parts car(not much left)
89 free parts car 5 speed

    05 Accord 4 cyl 5 speed

I don't have anything to tow it with and no time, it was my only day off.

Probably a little late to ask opinions on which one to get, but at least you got a festy and can now make it the way you want it! Good to see another NC festy owner on here!

If you're happy with your purchase, that's all that matters.

Now that you've got it running great, just enjoy it! They are tough little cars and amazingly reliable.

You never know if the "super nice" one will need work too, these are cars that are 16 plus years old.
